I hear that the devs are strongly recommending to start a new world once 1.0 drops. 🤔
From a server admin perspective, I think it's the best option. I was reviewing the saves from the KF server, and they were completely incompatible with the newest version of the new server software 6 months after I stopped running it.

I don't think v 1.0 is going to be effectively compatible with legacy saves. Maybe a few builds back, but if you picked up the game back in 2024 and stopped playing after a month, I would be skeptical if it worked.

I can't say I enjoyed Palworld, far too buggy and restrictive on base building for my tastes but good on them for getting close to 1.0 anyway. I think the largest irony, is that if Nintendo didn't do anything at all this game would of slid under a lot of radars and just fizzled out.

At least if I create a new world I'll know not to build my first base right by the first fast travel point.

They did make a lot of base building improvements to the game with the pre-1.0 updates. Could be even more in the full release.

To be fair, I think almost everyone stuck their base there.

I've said before, if not for the Lolsuit Palworld would have just been a Flavor of the Month Indie Game everyone would have moved on from beyond a core niche fanbase. But between the lolsuit and the general "quality" of Pokemon releases over the years, people have come to at least try Palworld more on spite than anything else. Especially the devs who have to keep changing shit in response to the Lolsuit.

Now, I don't claim to even pretend to understand Japanese Copyright Law, so I'm not even going to start, but Nintendo's complete overreaction to the point of trying to copyright games mechanics that decades of video games have used prior has enflamed that spite into flat out hatred. Nintendo has unironically made their own competition in the space, when all they had to do was ignore Palworld and it would have likely fizzled out on its own.

But Nintendo, and their dick riders, had to view Palworld as a threat to their investment to Pokémon and tried to sue them to get the game killed. Now it's got a pretty decent following that helped spur up Pocketpair as a new publisher for indie games and Palworld as their main franchise. Nintendo's plan of trying to kill the game to prevent competition backfired on them and Palworld might stick around for a while.

People couldn’t think of a Pokemon, so now they’re claiming it ripped off a Monster Hunter creature.
vileplume and uhhh tropius, hire me nintendo

it's only natural as a lot of shit is guaranteed to break, using an alpha/beta save in a release version would kind of be like trying to cook a massive steak on the same fire you used to grill a sausage

Rate me late, but the lolsuit, summarized

Honestly the most telling part isn’t that Nintendo has spent more than triple what they spend on a Pokémon title on lolsuits in a single year, but the fact that the lolsuit has essentially shown developers “hey, here’s exactly how close to the line you can tiptoe”.

PokeClone Renaissance when

Nintendo has unironically made their own competition in the space,
Nintendo seems to have a knack for that.

Them trying to screw over third party companies led to the creation of the PC-Engine, one of the first serious competitors Nintendo ever faced, and kicked off 16-bit gaming.

Then of course their attempts to make a CD addon for the SNES, where they kept fucking with their partners, led to both that weird period where other people could make Mario and Zelda games, and gave us the Sony Playstation, which wound up kicking the Nintendo 64's ass.

And now we have "lolsuit leads to Pokemon having a viable competitor for the first time ever."

Did I miss anything?

Frankly I almost wonder if Nintendo does this shit on purpose.

Nintendo is really getting its ass kicked in courts, huh?
It happens more often than they'd like to admit. Emulation is legal, for example, ruled so by an American court a good couple of decades back. They also lost trying to fuck with Game Genie and similar devices too. They don't win lawsuits -- they win lawfare against people who can't afford to fight, and pretend that's "precedent" when the actual precedent has historically been "fuck you, people can do what they want with the toys you sell them."

Speaking of the Nintendo lawsuit shit, have they tried to weaponize the payment processors to go after competition, i.e. doing a "Drop Kiwi Farms"-like campaign by making up some arbitrary reason to try to get the likes of banks and Visa/MasterCard to cut off services to competitors?

They don't have nearly the pull required to actually convince the (((merchants))) to start fucking with Steam over Palworld sales.

nintendo is worth more money on paper but only because they're so greedy it would make bibi blush and their fanbase has tunnel vision and rabies
valve has more actual non-monetary value and is basially a free market
nintendo focuses on and only cares about nintendo
