In the growing spirit of "female empowerment" and trying to further push an agenda for the sake of pushing an agenda, Warner Bros. (being envious of all of the negative press and money that Sony Pictures is losing off of Ghostbusters) has announced a spinoff of Ocean's Eleven called Ocean's Eight.

In October, news broke that Sandra Bullock was on board to lead an all-female reboot of Ocean’s Eleven, directed by The Hunger Games’ Gary Ross and titled Ocean’s Eight. Now, EW has learned that Warner Bros. is locking down its principal cast for the project, adding Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, and Awkwafina.

Gender-swapped movies, obviously another victory of diversity. I can't see this going poorly at all, because vagina.

And who the hell is Awkwafina?

I honestly had forgotten that the Ocean's # films were a thing. Way to pick a franchise to milk.
Also, most boring cast ever

How long before there are dueling think pieces about the women being so capable they don't need 11 members and complaints that they're not going for an Ocean's 14?

And who the hell keeps giving Rihanna acting roles?

If anything these gender-swap reboots are really sexist. What they're basically saying is "An original movie featuring an all female cast won't be worth anything unless we pin it to the coat-tails of an already successful male-led franchise."

They should combine the Ocean's remake series with Fast and Furiouses and The Expendablii into one massive clusterfuck to make a Pooh's Adventures of Actors That Aren't That Great But People Recognize Them.

I figured after the upcoming Magnificent Seven remake comes out, Sony will remake it again with an all women cast to ride Ocean's Eight coattails.

The most I could muster up for this reveal:

Good luck to them. I like Hathaway and Cate Blancett, Helena Bonham Carter when she isn't in a fucking Tim Burton movie... and the rest I really don't care either way.

The script is apparently being written by one Olivia Milch, who thus far doesn't have anything substantial under her name yet, but is apparently the daughter of David Milch, dude who co-created "NYPD Blues" and "Deadwood," so maybe there's hope. So long as the script is decent and isn't filled with queefing jokes and Sandra Bullock squawking about Chinese food, it might be okay.

If the film turns out to be decent, then okay. If the movie turns out to be another "MY VAGINA CAN DO ANYTHING A PENIS CAN!" movie, then it can go fuck off.

Anyway, I look forward to people being split into equal parties - one saying that "oh no, the wimmens are going to steal away my George Clooney," and the other bitching about how 8 is a smaller number than 11, and therefore the title itself is demeaning to women and things.

At the very least, this movie doesn't have the burden of replicating something so inextricably linked to its original actors like Ghostbusters was. Ocean's Eleven was just one of many excuses for the Rat Pack to be the Rat Pack on film.

I don't think that's the Ocean's Eleven they're trying to replicate.

True, but my point is Ocean's Eleven isn't a property overly tied to any one performer, Sinatra, Clooney, et al. It just needs two things:
  • A band of con folk knocking over casinos with just their wits and wiles
  • To be good

let them get upset how this movie will "ruin their childhood" just like a movie like ghostbusters that was made before most of them were born got ruined. to be honest the more offensive thing is how downhill soderbergh went after oceans 11
