On 6/29/25, at approximately 1pm, the Coeur D'Alene fire department responded to a fire on Nettleton Gulch road. At approximately 1:50pm, an unknown individual or individuals opened fire on those firefighters, killing two. Thus began a roughly 6 hour game of cat and mouse with several firefights, multiple law enforcement agencies, and at least one dead shooter. No motive has been released yet, and it is unclear how many more people are dead, and if all the shooters are dead.

This is disturbing and is going to have some serious ramifications. We need to be able to send people out to contain wildfires as soon as they get going, but it's hard to justify doing that when we've got freaks using them as target practice. I swear this isn't the first time I've heard of this kind of thing happening, just the first time firefighters actually ended up dead. I don't know that I can assume it was politically motivated. It could just be the same kind of motivation as school shooters, where an asshole just decided they wanted to inflict pain on people in a relatively easy way with the expectation that they won't have to live through the consequences.

Doesn't make much sense given this was in a National Park, and that he set a fire in it with the intention to lure in emergency response, something that could potentially take hours or even days to bear fruit depending on how the blaze went up. Western U.S. development is all foreign; if he opposed it he would have been better off just going to Seattle to Luigi a Chinese hedge fund CEO.

Photos in the news thread looks distinctly chuggish, my final bet is a rez rat who had it out for whitey. I was alive to see the Frog Lake killings here; people underestimate just how savage the treeniggers get when they stop chugging Listerine, smoking fiberglass, and raping their kids long enough to stumble out the door.
