Nolan's The Odyssey - Potentially could be epic or an epic flop.

"We're Greeks." Says the man who is not Greek to the black man who is also not Greek, who is supposed to translate this to the third guy, who didn't think they were Greeks.

Plus the word Greek was invented later by the *Romans*, fuck sake's! I don't know what term the people of the time period would have used but at least Hellene (or whatever the right way to write that) would have been better since later Greeks actually used that term for themselves.

Here's what all this insanity ultimately boils down to, the crux of Odysseus's character as Nolan wants everyone to see it.

Odysseus is le PTSD-riddled vet who legitimately thinks he deserves exile and damnation because of The Trojan Horse. He claims that the destruction of Troy, and especially the way that Troy was des(troy)ed was an offense unto nature, decency and the laws of Zeus. He essentially equates the state of things prior to the Sack of Troy to a mandate of heaven, one shared by the Greek nations and thrown away when they snuck in and killed their enemies. Now that mandate has been violated, the Sea Peoples are invading and destroying Mycenaean/Achaean/Greek civilization.

That's right, your senses do not lie to you. This is one giant liberal guilt fantasy. Substitute white/western civilization with the Achaeans and you'll see it.

"Our age of bronze is ending."
-A line actually spoken and written in a $250 million dollar Hollywood production.
I officially hope this bomb and Nolan gets in this life or after death what he deserves. History is a hobby of mine, this is beyond just insulting my intelligence but insults a whole civilization that is part of a cornerstone of western civilization which is the only one where Nolan is even able to made this! Fuck!

So, since the film is out in all theaters today, my box office predictions:
Film budget is reportedly $250 million production with marketing reportedly $150 million, but that's a low-ball and I think the actual marketing is $200 million given all the tours they're doing with the cast, which is very expensive.

Tax credits/cash rebates are relatively low, probably $25 million at most. $7 million from Greece, $7-10 million from Morocco, $3-5 million from Italy, and the rest from US and Iceland. No UK filming that I can see, so we'll probably never know the true production expenses.

Call it $225 million production. I'll split the marketing to $175 million, for roughly $400 total expenses.

Nolan films lately have gotten a domestic/international box office split of around 65:35, which is basically what Oppenheimer got, but a bit lower than the 73% international box office for Tenet and Interstellar. This film's box office will be very front-loaded to the first two weeks, thanks to Spider-Man likely cutting its legs off at the end of the month. The percentage take is higher for the first two weeks for films, so the usual 50% split for the ticket price between studio/theaters is a bit pessimistic. I'll give the studio a 65% split.

At $400 million total cost and 65% studio take, the film's break even on paper should be around the $615 million mark. So anything better than Dunkirk would be profit.

However, Nolan has had a long-standing agreement with Warner Bros, that he gets 20% of the First-Dollar Gross of the box office. (Technically it's a 15% to Nolan and 5% to his wife) As he gets first-dollar gross, he gets his cut before the theaters take theirs.

This has been standard for him since at least Interstellar, from which he made roughly $90 million against a $730 million box office.

Factoring that in, the Odyssey's break even jumps up to roughly $890 million. If the marketing is indeed $200 million, then break even is more like $945-950 million. This is all assuming the theaters take is just 35% of the ticket price.

(note, I'm ignoring IMAX, since it has more particular compensation agreements. I think my generous 65% studio take should more or less cover IMAX)

So this film probably needs to make $900-950 million before the studio makes a penny of profit.

The film doesn't have a Barbenheimer type event to boost it with a female audience, and Spider-Man will actually work against it most likely, so it has negative pressure compared to Nolan's last film.

The word of mouth is pretty terrible thanks to people seeing that cam copy the last day or so and spreading the word all over social media, along with tons of memes.

Then you have the weeks of casting controversies, the poor trailers and very one-sided dislikes ratio for the final trailer, the various idiotic statements by Felon of Detroyt and that Circe actress, and Nolan himself low-key attacking the audience over his terrible dialogue (which I don't think has ever happened for a previous Nolan film). So there's not much going in its favor.

On top of all that, the film is rated R. So was Oppenheimer, and Joker, both which made around the $1 billion range. But the Odyssey is ostensibly an adventure tale, with usually more appeal to younger male audiences that the R-rating would reduce.

So, my prediction before I saw the cam copy was that the film would make a modest profit.

However, I now think it will be around $650 million by the second weekend, after which Spider-Man will likely cut out its legs, and it'll end up around $750 million final box office when it hits streaming in late-August. An Interstellar, rather than an Oppenheimer.

I also predict I'll be blamed for the $150+ million flop, for being too racist to spend $50 on an IMAX ticket and I predict that hordes of studio AI bots will spend at least a month insisting that $750 million is a hit "actshually" and not a massive flop.

If Captain Marvel can make a billion then so can this. This is Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 all over: a shockingly woke product that feels like a stab in the back considering who made it, but no matter how much people criticize it it will still be a huge hit.

Also Critical Drinker and Nerdrotic double-teamed Piers Morgan like the whore he is.

Captain Marvel opened to $153m domestic and $300m internationally. This will need serious legs to catch up.

I read on X that Nolan made 'The Oddity' super woke to get back in Hollyweird's good graces after being seen as a 'Conservative, Rightwing Director'.

That, and he probably wants another Oscar.

Captain Marvel was riding the capeshit hype train, anything the MCU shat out would have made the same amount of money back then, and probably more.

What Captain Marvel also did was permanently damage the MCU brand.

Same thing with KCD2, it sold well, but it sold well on the positive reception and praise the first game got. A lot of people didn't read up on all the dogshit the kike shoved into the game before buying it.

With these products it's always the one after the subversive one that tends to suffer.

The Odyssey isn't making "billion dollar movie" money in the opening week, so it's very unlikely to hit that high, and it actually needs to reach that number to break even.

Funny thing is first group of Greeks Romans encountered were from city state Graea . Romans called them Grecians . And for Romans every Greek was Grecian, Hellas was Grecia. And southern Italy where many Greeks used to live was called Magna Grecia. Greater Greece.
So Greeks are named after random town that was forgotten by all , but few history spergs.

The thing that convinces me he's a leftist that agrees with Hollywood's politics is how disingenuous his response to the criticism has been. A week ago, in a ballwashing interview with a British outlet, he pretended not to know what the backlash was about.
Comes with the territory. But look, these conversations that happen before people see the film – they’re always irrelevant, because no one having them knows what the film actually is yet. Besides, he says, he was aware from day one that The Odyssey was exactly the sort of project liable to stir up strong commentary – in good faith and bad – about how it should properly be handled. But remember, I spent 10 years of my life dealing with Batman.
He compares people that aren't very fond of this $500M demoralization campaign from Hollywood to comic book fans. If he thinks complaining about his casting choices in The Odyssey is the same as complaining about Batman's cape being too long, then he's truly become yet another brainrotten leftist scumbag. It's ironic that he says his critics must see the film first, because the film was leaked not long after this interview.

The author goes on to mock the outrage. I'm amazed by these people's priorities. They're fine with seeing the Odyssey defiled, one of the most important works of high literature, but then they turn around and crucify a White VA for voicing a black character in an animated show of all things.

They're just going to keep making multiracial remakes of every historical work. Then, eventually, when there is an alternate multiracial version of every movie, they will ban the originals and pretend that it was always this way.

100 years from now, no one will even know that mono racial nations ever existed. Anyone who claims they existed will be treated like a Holocaust denier.

Hercules is a cartoon that didn't pretend to be a serious movie in the way that The Odyssey is. Nobody's watching it expecting it to be an accurate retelling of the Greek tale or to not have any eccentricities in it (which is especially common in animated movies and TV shows). It's not a massive problem if you throw in a gospel girl group or have Hades talk like a lawyer. For the same reasons, most people aren't going to care about the fact that Mushu feeds Mulan porridge with bacon and eggs in the Disney movie, but it would look significantly more retarded if someone did that in a serious historical live-action drama about ancient China.

This is like saying that you can't criticize that Anne Boleyn TV show where a black woman played the main character because Monty Python and the Holy Grail exists, and that movie is even more historically inaccurate than Anne Boleyn. They belong to two completely different genres and shouldn't be judged by the same yardstick.

Hercules is also actually good, unlike The Odyssey.
