I genuinely think this movie has better special effects than this shit. I mean, just look at this

I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt and say that, because we're seeing a version filmed with a potato, we're not appreciating the FX as they should be seen. Not really looking to watch the actual movie, but I'm gonna wait to appreciate that in a better format.

With that being said, the acting is still mundane considering this is still an epic. Gods or not, compare the mannerisms and entire attitude of the soldiers from Troy and '97 Odyssey. It belongs to a comedy just by the faces alone.

Argos is waiting for Odysseus. He waits neglected, but he waits faithfully. His faith can’t be rewarded. It’s a gut punch and it does humanize Odysseus immensely. You can call it cliche, but it literally is one of the first recorded stories to do this.

This movie is fundamentally broken by actively fighting against the primary themes and cultural minutia of the actual story of "The Odyssey". Why the fuck did Nolan fight for decades to make something he fundamentally didn't understand and or hated?

The first faces we see close up in this movie are:

1. This guy, on top of a table in a room of men eating. I assume this is supposed to be a symposion. This is not what ancient or classical Greek symposium were like btw, eating was done before reciting poetry and other entertainments

3. A white guy sitting beside the Chinese (maybe he's a character played by an actor I should know, idk and idc)

Not even 60 seconds in and I'm about to tap out. And that isn't even the reason why! The black guy "recites" Homer. "Recites" because he is not quoting the first lines of The Odyssey. These are the first lines of The Odyssey:

Iirc the only times Odysseus cries are when he hears someone recount the Fall of Troy and it’s been a while, but it’s a mix of grief and frustration. Grief at what he and his men, who didn’t all make it, went through and frustration at how it’s been turned into entertainment. The other time is Argos.

It’s not PTSD, but a complex range of emotions. It’s meta in a way that’s not gay faggot shit. He’s hearing how is he perceived after wandering around for years. He covers his face when crying and it’s a tell to the king of the court that he’s a veteran of the Trojan War.

As someone mentioned somewhere else its funny how Disney found Pacific Islanders extras to fill in for the Moana remake, but Nolan seemingly couldn't find Greek extras to fill in the roles of the soldiers, gods and other characters despite Greeks not only outnumbering them but also the damn country being the origin of this kind of classical storytelling directors/writers made their careers from.
