Matt Damon actually does just go Myatt Daymin or spews teachers Union propaganda if not beaten enough. The B roll is full of it. The twirling when he’s revealed to the suitors is actually dubbed over because he’s just shouting his name constantly and the actors are terrified he’s having an autistic shit fit.
It's honestly less impressive than the ziggurat set from Beastmaster, that poor-man's Conan from the 80's. And that film had far better fight scenes, even the cheap final battle was better than anything in this so far

IMAX cameras only hold about 2.5-3 mins worth of film, so you shoot a single take, then have to wait 20 mins as a new magazine is loaded into the camera. Nolan refuses to use digital, so I'd be shocked if there was more than a few takes of any given scene.
This is probably why most of the dialogue scenes are indoors, at night. No weather or lighting changes between the film magazines.
So no, Odysseus was not going to mope around and have a good cry about tricking the Trojans and sacking the city. It's an entire fabrication by feminists and weak men filled with self destructive levels of empathy.
It's even stupider than that: ATHENA is literally the Goddess of Military Trickery. She's the Loki of the Greek pantheon. Ares is all about the violence and chaotic aspects of war, a God for Infantry, but Athena is strategy and CIA psyops and clever generals. There is no dishonor in outthinking your enemy, and the Hellenes would've laughed at the very notion.
Homer attributes the Trojan Horse to Athena's will, a divinely sanctioned tactic, the ultimate expression of Athena's metis (cunning). The whole point of the Horse is that trickery (brains) worked where brute force had failed for ten years. Ajax (the phalanx) couldn't win, Achilles (the warrior) couldn't win, but Odysseus' wiles did defeat Troy and in just three days (the film says they hid in the horse for three days, some version of Homer say one day).
If I remember correctly, this whole concept of the Horse as a dishonorable trick, and Odysseus as a villain comes from Virgil's Aeneid, since the story is from the viewpoint of the victims not the Greeks.
With Sinon's sacrifice, and Odysseus' depictions as a weak moper who keeps getting his men killed, this film seemingly takes more from Virgil's version of Odysseus than Homer's, though that could just be Emily Wilson's influence.

Oh, it's far worse than my beloved 80's B movies. Those are at least coherent. Krull is better than this. Conan the Destroyer is better than this. Deathstalker II, Gor, F-grade shit like that is where I'd put this film. It's almost unwatchable, due to the pacing/editing issues, the sound mixing, and just how cheap and bland it looks visually.
MST3K would've loved it.

I'm hard pressed to think of any B-movie with costumes that bad looking and bland. Deathstalker II has the infamous batwing helmet, but it has more personality.
If I had to compare Nolan's The Odyssey to anything, however, it wouldn't be 80's cheese, it would be 'Megalopolis' and 'Battlefield Earth'. A bloated vanity project with dialogue written by a retard, an wannabe epic story told badly, well-known actors embarrassing themselves, unconvincing costumes, and a pervading suspicion the film exists to launder money.
My dad ias tempted to see this thing but was persuaded not to so here's my question: What would you all in this recommend as a worth watching version of the Iliad and the Odyssey stories? It doesn't have to be completely accurate but preferably something that had effort and heart put into making it

The Italian mini series by Franco Rossi and the film version called Nosos: The Return by Franco Paivoli are up on youtube as well. Franco's film has no dialogue since the director puts more emphasis on atmosphere and visual.

The Greek actress Irene Papas who plays Penelope in the mini series also starred in the film Iphigenia that is also apart of the overall Trojan war cycle. It's also up on youtube.
I don't think it's odd since Nolan clearly does have his fans, but the issue with this movie is that it clearly has a budget that means it needs to have mass-appeal. If this was done with the budget Nolan movies usually get (~100m) it would likely start turning profit in week three or four. However now it needs to earn in the area of 700-800m before turning profit and I think that'll be a struggle if the Box Office projections are right. I think they vastly overestimated his appeal due to the Barbenheimer hype.
