Nolan's The Odyssey - Potentially could be epic or an epic flop.

It's less than a week out. I did a bit of scouting on seats.
The fancy imax theater in my city is mostly booked out of all the good seats opening weekend on imax and 70mm. Front row is still very open and there's openings in the edges. Lots of openings noon and 4pm.
What is surprising is that every other theater is very open. The less popular theater near me has almost no seats booked for any time. Theres a cheap theater near me with nice seats low seat count that is usually full. Every showing is still wide open. It usually takes a few weeks before I can watch popular movies from a good seat in a theater that isn't crowded.
The activity so far doesn't indicate a billion dollar movie. It seems like it might follow some recent trends where it will open high due to fans pre booking premium showings, but fizzle out since there's not enough interest from the general audience.

You know that Romeo and Juliet movie in the 90s with Leo Dicap that was very fucking weird because of the setting mismatch. I am picturing that this movie will have a similar weirdness but it won't be concentrated. Like little things here and there that will be off so afterwards the audience is gonna be confused but they won't truly comprehend why

I think the main difference between Romeo + Juliet and this drek is that the director for the latter had respect for the materials and just wanted to showcase them in a different way. Moving the setting to modern times but everything else, including the language, was kept as Shakespeare wrote it. It was an attempt to bring The Bard to a larger audience who otherwise wouldn't have ever encountered it by a film make who revered the original work and just wanted more people to enjoy it. It was a passion project and it showed, everything glowed of attention to detail and love for the source.

This Nolan film seems to be the opposite. The casting, the dialog, the setting, the props, they all reek of "modern audiences" and pandering to wokies. When I watch the trailers I don't feel anything but a sense of contempt for the source material. It feels like Nolan is just picking and choosing what he wants out of the story to re-imagine in his eyes. Which I guess is what a director does but like I said, it feels to me just like the Ring's of Power show, full of...I dunno, it's not outright hatred of the fan base like RoP, but there's something there. Like it's using the skin of the original to hide something else, something darker, more sinister.

What? Beats me, I ain't seen it yet and I will agree with many others that The Odyssey may indeed do pretty well. But I also have my doubts. Big Hollywood is on the rocks it seems. The last couple of big blockbuster movies have all bombed and even Toy Story 5 isn't doing as well as was expected. People may just be done with Hollywood and theatres in general so it could very well bomb.

We will just have to wait and see how it does.

It also had a banging sound track that gave it a modern edge. Putting a rapper in as a narrator would have been a disaster even though it was a modern setting. A detail, for example, of turning swords into guns solved the problem of dated weaponry. If Nolan wanted he could have leaned harder into a sci-fi or epic fantasy but we got stuck with paper doll kitchen sink pastiche.

Who is alway portrayed as an insane Christian when he was really a communist who only mentioned Jesus in passing, if you listen to the whole mass suicide tape he doesn't mention Jesus or the Bible once, it is all about communism and the people he talks to express their hope that the Russians will save them.

Why not subvert the story of Jonestown with the truth?
It's easier to just cut Milk out of the Jim Jones story since Jones being a woke SJW is a critical part of his story that can't be removed since said woke politics was how he got his cult to begin with.

I feel like Nolan's past two movies are a tax he is having to pay to become an insider and have the power he has now.

Remember back in 2012 he made a movie where one of the main messages was not only that socialism doesn't solve anything, but that it makes things worse and before that he made a movie that said some parts of the Patriot act could do some good in the right hands.

That can't have gone over well with the people in power in Hollywood so his last movie was pro Communists and this movie has every SWJ piece of casting and messaging in it and that is washing his hands clean of the sin of making those two Batman movies.
Ironically it's the inversion. Hollywood would probably LOVE to force Nolan back on the plantation making capeshit. Which he refuses to do as Nolan considers the Batman trilogy as his "paying his dues" to be allowed to make the films he WANTS to make. Especially since the Odessy is his chance to finally make Troy, which he was denied when he had the film stolen from him and made to make Batman Begins.

Even if the industry will go full reality denial to hide the fact that the film flopped/underperformed, Nolan will be fucked and Paramount will be waiting to force him to reboot Batman for them to be allowed to make the films he wants to make down the line.

We really didn't know how good we had it in the 90's. No need for special effects, just good writing and actors who knew they were making a cheesy show and delivered the cheddar with deadpan seriousness.

I cannot stress enough for our zoomer frens how good the Xena and Hercules shows are. Are they pure cheese? Yes. Absolutely. But in a good way that you can forgive it, and you would be truly cheesed to watch it.
Hercules is great but Xena peaked with season three and had they had the balls to end on that season, Xena would be as iconic and an undisputed GOAT 90s show...

Nolan does it again!

Sound was awful, couldn't understand dialogue, most pretentious movie of the year. They liked the epic action. Not a disaster, controversial casting is brief and not a big deal. Elliot Page's character is called the greatest soldier ever known.

Edit to add: Travis Scott end credits song confirmed.

And Troy is proving itself to been placed in the right hands. In Nolan's hands, it'd probably be like Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, the grey, dreary version of Sherwood Forest.

Figured he buggered the sound. Again. I absolutely despise how people call him a great technical director when all his audio mixing is consistently garbage. ADR exists to clean up on-set audio, retards.

What movies?

>Not a disaster
>Lists 334823 reasons why it's awful

Gore is such a pansy, this is why I can't ever stand to listen to him. Alan seems way more honest this is astroturfed slop.
They are super limited on their 'out of theater' reactions. I've also notice they usually go easy on those in general and when the full review is out after the embargo they'll go off on them.

It's scenes like that which remind you, ooh right... semitism. The little drops of subversion over a long period of time hidden by the vile nature of the show and its characters (breaking bad also did stuff like this). It's like the line they give the character Tony, who calls himself a "Soldier", while comparing Hitler to pol pot. Absolute nigger kikery - Hitler was an actual soldier in one of the most brutal wars in history, unlike the fake wop in their show, unlike the semitic writers, and unlike the actors themselves. It's all such tiresome jewry. Like Larry david using his "comedy" as a shield to get some little talmudic hits in on Christians, like when he pissed on a picture of Jesus' face in CYE. "Whoopsie Doodle! I'm so silly HAHA! Me, a Jew, just pissed on Jesus!!" Norwooded four-eyed Kike.

Comedian Bill Hicks once said something to the effect of, "It's a joke, so you can get away with it... but in truth, it isn't a joke." That's what these media kikes do. To bring it back to Greekoid shit, "You cannot treat with poison." - Xenophon. The hollyjew must go.
AI is going wild with Nolan's Wokyssey :lit:

"This burnt looking hag". Christ this is good, look what happens when machine learning is used for righteousness.

Been seeing a lot of takes like this lately (from a not-at-all-notable Twitter personality who I will not even deign to link to)

The Odyssey isn’t historically accurate because Christopher Nolan is in the business of making shit that looks cool, not teaching history. You might be confusing a filmmaker for a historian because you are stupid.

But as many people have pointed out it doesn't look very visually striking either, in fact it looks like dogcrap. Nolan himself and his people and entertainment reporters are going on about how "grounded" this film is; how they made Bronze Age instruments or put people on a real ship and decided to keep recording as they vomited from the rocking to make it more realistic. And a thousand other comments "they've gone to a great deal to make it look accurate" while Nolan's defenders and he himself hide behind "it's not supposed to be realistic" when it's convenient. Nobody asked The Odyssey to be a documentary, it is based on a psuedohistorical poem with mythical elements, but fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffuck. If you are going to make it stylized, actually try to make it unique and striking unlike every other drab piece of garbage that's hit theaters for the past several years.

I can agree to that by pointing out 300. Was it historically accurate? Helllllll no why on earth would they go into battle with capes and underwear?

But it was pretty bad ass

300 works because its a literally propaganda film made 2500 years after the thing it was supposed to propagandize ended. Propaganda films in general are designed to be crowd pleasers, think of the two most iconic ones, triumph of the will and birth of a nation, they literally revolutionized cinema as we know it.

When your goal is reaching an audience instead of stroking your ego its insane how much you can accomplish.
