Nolan's The Odyssey - Potentially could be epic or an epic flop.

Everyone said it will have two big weeks.

Now if Spider-Man dies next week it will make money.

I think Spiderman makes a ton of money its first weekend. It's gonna have the millennial manchild and the teen audience on lock for the weekend regardless of quality. Not sure how much it will take away from the audience for Odyssey as I don't think they overlap. After that, if it's good, it may have legs for a couple of weeks. If it's bad, well it will drop off like every other Marvel movie has in recent memory. I'm leaning towards it is going to be good enough and fun, which will keep summer audiences showing up.

Both are summer event movies, really THE summer event movies for this year. But they have different audiences. One is going to skew older, who are probably not interested in Spiderman. The other is going to skew younger, and probably not overly interested in a dour drama that clocks in at 3 hours. Besides that younger audience has all that cash from not seeing Supergirl that they need to spend.

I don't really understand the victory lap on Reddit. There was no organized boycott, no five alarm campaign to make it fail. None of the major 'anti-woke' influencers lifted a finger to do anything but riff on it in their usual format like any other movie they don't like. Heck Drinker, the supposed king of the movement's Odyssey videos were more just tepid disappointment than anything else. He didn't claim it would fail. Its Phantom Menace/The Force Awakens/MCU/Disney Live Action Remake again. The general public is a lumbering dumb beast, largely blind to internet drama left or right and will often turn out for even complete garbage with the right advertising/brand until they are burned long enough to come back to their senses ie the later stages of all the above mentioned franchises.

Nobody claims the 9/10 woke failures were because Critical has a red button under his desk he presses, and the right culturesphere is all powerful. It was because they were so garbage the public finally took notice. For Odyessy the anticipation of Nolan's next big project overwhelms everything else in the eyes of much of the general public and I didn't see anyone big on the right claim otherwise.

The social media drama was not only a sideshow battle. Its one the chuds didn't even really fight. Yet on reddit and bluesky its like its VJ day with nonstop virtual ticker tape parades as if they just won some apocalyptic war. And this 1/10 triumph totally proves that the public craves 2 billion% more extreme DEI in all movies and shows from now on.

They have been losing bigly, HUGELY, since 2016 with all of the movies pushing this type of agenda. They finally have a movie, specifically a male demo movie, that they can claim is successful and woke. For some reason they can't take the Barbie win. Women don't matter to them. This movie has to be successful in every capacity so they can go to studio heads and investors and say "See, the public does want this! Continue to fund it". Which is why when this movie also doesn't make money by the end of it's run the last gasp of Hollywood that this represents will finally die. And maybe we get good movies again from the scraps.

Yeah, they need something to show investors because Blackrock has run into problems and while it is not going anywhere, it is having to be more careful with its money so these projects are not getting the unlimited funds they got before. US AID is also gone. Their two big sugar daddies are gone so now they need a huge woke hit so investors and banks will give them the money they need to continue pushing The Message, because the studios are broke and can't back these films on their own. That is why they are pushing the idea that this movie has somehow already made a profit so hard.
