That still makes way too much sense. Maybe he just thinks the Russian spelling is fancier because, like the Maple Leafs, it is not American in origin? (I live in the same general part of Pennsylvania and there aren't a lot of families of Russian descent -- German, yes, like Nick Stoutzenberger himself -- so maybe he thinks anything Russian is mega-exotic. I know most of my students at a local university are from this area and have no ambitions to live anywhere else or even study abroad.)
