The key to this thing is that fans aren't in love with Neuro, they're in love with Vedal. But also fans think Vedal is literally them, just like their favorite anime character or Ryan Gosling. I was reading some of the Chinese and Japanese comments on their translated videos and they're all excitedly interpreting the 'turtle father's dramatic arc like he's the cyberpunk protagonist of a generation
The guy could very easily become the figurehead of a new religion if he tried, he's already got the harem of scantily dressed women cheerleading around him. But he doesn't seem interested because I don't think even Vedal knows what his own motivations are, he seems to drink a lot and be very emotionally repressed

I think Vedal just likes autistically programming things. He was doing shit like this before Neuro took off. I actually think Neuro is just a case of something he enjoys doing at the right time capturing an audience.
That said he does seem to be a decent guy. The Anny drama earlier this year was a pretty good example of it.
For the tourists here and not in the know: Anny had the role of being Neuro/Evil's mother (A term given to her because she drew their models). Anny is also a V-tuber and ended up catching feelings for Vedal. You'd expect most weeb streamer trash to immediately jump on the girl attention especially when everyone in their fan base was cheering them on to get together, but Vedal professionally did not reciprocate her feelings and then didn't make a big deal about it and continued on his work. Anny crashed out and after suffering depression or some dumb shit left the project.

It's not that she just caught feelings that weren't reciprocated...
The entire Swarm made tons of Vedal x Anny ship art et al which affected her.
And then when it was obvious they were just friends, the swarm started making ship art of Vedal with other vtubers NTR-ing Anny.

I suppose that is fair and a decent point. I do feel bad for her because that has to suck to have happen to you, but I think having a male streamer that isn't a troon or a sexpest is in part a large reason that Vedal himself is rather likable.
