The show's available in (I think) about a half hour. Since I'm still up I'll probably watch an episode or two tonight.

I've just turned on the first episode, and I cheated by looking through the episodes, and it seems like they've taken several of the short stories as the core of most of the episodes. The first five minutes aren't terrible at least.

I dunno whatchu guys talking about. Show's fine if youre drunk if you ignore the shoestring budget. Heck fine enough to make a movie by cutting out stuff. Havent seen any negros.

Wait... the fuck is Netflix

But in all seriousness, they seem to try for another GoT and Sapkowski being a senile autist is saying how great it is because he hates games but wants more moni so he shills the show.

Watched the first episode. It's okay so far. I take issue with changes to the Renfri story, minor though they are. But since Blaviken is sharing 50% of the screentime with Cintra it would be hard to have made it more true to the books. Nilfgaards armor looks retarded. The battle looked retarded too, but in the way that all movie and TV battles look retarded. So it's not a major drag on the show. Also WE WUZ CINTRANS N SHEEIT.

Was absolutely shocked to see Eist Tuirseach in here as a character since even I'd basically forgotten he existed for a bit. So that's nice. Also Renfri a cute.

Prognosis: Inconclusive. Ill have to watch more to see. But it hasn't sent me into paroxysms of rage yet and I'm a huge fanboy so that's a good sign.

The removal of the Tridam element of the Lesser Evil story makes Geralt's return to the marketplace feel nonsensical. It also messes up Renfri's character since it showed that - whether due to Stregobor's actions or by birth - she had become a monster.

That aside, the show so far is alright. The dialogue feels a bit... clumsy, with lots of beating the viewer over the head about the concept of lesser evils and choices. Henry Cavill feels like he's really overselling the whole gruff, stoic thing.

I had foolishly hoped they would've done a Polish VO for the show with the game's voice actors.

Second episode is worse. I started out with a real bad feeling, dialogue and pacing was off etc. Then
they reveal that Yennefer and Istredd are working each other for Arethuza and Ban Aard respectively. That was a nice twist and keeping with the feel of the books. Thumbs up!.
but then....
they made Tissaia go full super villain instead of just cold. Big mistake I think. Gonna make it hard not to just say "Y'know Vilgefortz is right, fuck Sorceresses." when he has his say.

Also not quite sure what's going on in the timeline here. If a lot is going to be revealed to be flashbacks or if everything is as it appears. Gonna be weird for Ciri's mother figure to be approximately the same age she is in reality and not just biologically.

At least Dandelion can sing better than his vidya counterpart.

It also messes up Renfri's character since it showed that - whether due to Stregobor's actions or by birth - she had become a monster.
She's still
holding a girl at knife point. I just miss her prophesying her own death. And that last moment where she tries to kill Geralt. "I am what I am" and all that.

Sure, but she gives her up pretty much immediately and by making that girl the helper of Stregobor, it kinda made the girl the only one she had to threaten. A lot different than getting ready to massacre an entire village.

A bit into episode two now. I'm not sure if it's the lighting, cinematography, overall production values, or what... but something makes it feels like a bigger budget CW show. Really, I don't think it seems much better than The 100.

Episode 3 was substantially better. Solid job all around. Dialogue is still a bit shaky but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. And for anyone confused: Yes, they're jumping back and forth in time a lot in the show. Episode 3 confirms it.

Yeah show does not look high budget.

I am now halfway through the third episode.

I think it's good. I think it captures the world mostly well and most of the actors do a great to decent job bringing their characters to life.

I can look past the fact that some of the characters are black, as long as they don't do a big grand standing about their race, when it dosen't belong in it.

The only real criticism i have, is that the Nilfgaardians have Armor, that looks like they are made out of Cereal Boxes.

Episode three was definitely a lot better. The dialogue is still kinda clumsy and awkward but everything else improved over the first two episodes. Hopefully it continues that trend. I'll probably finish it up on the weekend.

I fear they simply don't have the time and budget for what they're attempting here. The short stories that are not given the majority of an episode to themselves are not done justice too, albeit they are clearly making an earnest attempt.

And surprisingly, I think they've kinda fucked up Geralt and Yennefer's romance, which was probably the last thing I thought they'd have a problem with. The pseudo-episodic structure just doesn't give it time to have the required nuance. I'm enjoying it more than I'm not but the show runner has been over ambitious and it shows.

This show seems so cheap. Everything looks cheap.
Not watching the rest of the series.
This seems like it was made for teenagers.
The entire CG budget is in the last episode.

The showrunner is the same exceptional individual that brought us The Defenders, my friend.
It's better than the Defenders but it's got some big problems structurally. If they get a second season that may not be an issue anymore since there's no need to drive face first through the first two books + a bunch of extra backstory stuff in 8 episodes.

Honestly, it feels like an 8 hour long pilot.

They destroyed any chance of thriving thanks to the way they did their casting. There would've been nothing wrong with an all-white cast for this one.

Instead you get Diversity America Casting.

I don't like diversity casting either but that's very far from the show's weakest link.

I mean, they didn't go for talent, they went for skin color, and then the only right choice of a main character was literally Geralt, because Henry Cavill is an amazingly flexible actor in terms of acting range. I wonder if Lauren S Hissrich is from New York.
Edit: Nope, she's from Ohio.

I really dont understand why this was done the way it was. Its just more of a..... did someone just pay to use the series name? Or were they actually a fan who's just bad at film?

Henry Cavill is the worst of the main three in this, sadly. Hard to get lack of affect to not look wooden and the dialogue isn't great, to be fair. He's not bad. He's fine really. But it's not a standout performance for him.
