i don’t think we will ever really know for sure if he left the show because of how unbridled ass it is, but i want to believe.
originally i was going to ignore s03 completely, but now i feel major morbid curiosity. if Henry Cavill, world’s biggest Geralt FanTM, possibly left the show over how bad it is, then how much worse could this season be? what new horseshit have they come up with that made him say “that’s enough”? i fear i will be torrenting this next season, in the same manner that i am powerless to stop myself from clicking on a gore thread.

He'll probably never say because he is a gentleman and a scholar. He's never said anything about all the stuff he's been through with DC and tries to stay on everyone's good side. Infuriatingly at times.

Every basic bitch that adored this show has done a complete 180 in the span of 3 days from what I've seen. It's kind of amazing just how much Henry was keeping this thing afloat it seems.

When the portal gateway thingies were introduced on the show, my hope was that Geralt would travel to the modern day -- perhaps 2022 Los Angeles. If you have seen Masters of the Universe: The Motion Picture or Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time, or perhaps Star Trek 4, you've seen how well this concept can work. Suppose some street toughs are playing loud rap music on their boom box, and then Geralt says, "Fosooth, what be this mysterious noise?" (or however he talks), and then he chops the boombox in half with his sword. Think "Crocodile Dundee meets Tolkien". They could make four or five seasons for the cost of one current episode. This is the way to save the series.

They were probably planning on giving Geralt the TLJ Luke/TLOU2 Joel treatment (humiliation + being killed off) and he nope'd the fuck out.
Can't blame him.

This was the thing that popped into my head when this news appeared last week, Cavill won the battle to get that scene with Roach changed but this season probably has such levels of shitty modern nerd humor he couldn't fight back anymore and wanted to leave.
At some level I think Cavill also feels like he's not being met equally with the casting of others compared to him. He's a good looking guy, keeping in shape, and he's supposed to be fucking every woman left and right, but none of the women ever look as attractive as the characters in the games did. With the best lighting and stage design one might look like a 7 for a scene.

I mean, I get it, I truly empathize with the writers and viewers who want to see more people who represent themselves in shows like this. One of the main reasons I watch The Witcher is that I am practically identical to Henry Cavill and am often mistaken for him on the street.

He only took the role because he loves the material. He was the guy on set pushing for more lines from the book, he was committed to 7 seasons in that interview but only if they maintained the original vision.
Suddenly season 2 comes out and assfucks the entire narrative because of petty writers and he decides to leave? Guy did everything short of sign post it.
This always happens when they get a female showrunner. The guy is a slab of fuckmeat but the women are always homely wine moms covered up completely. I can't imagine the disgust he had to swallow to stomach the inevitable sex scene with Triss next season. Having to grind against that wretched overweight sheboon must be torture for a man so hot women probably throw themselves at him.

She gets raped by someone she considered a friend of the same sex. Someone doesn't turn gay after shit like that.
Ciri also canonically (as canon as the Witcher can be, anyway, since it's literally the last scene in the books) hooks up with Galahad.
