Everyone i have talked to didn't like season 2 AND they told me Lauren started writing stories out of her asshole changing book things.
She did, but she was changing stuff back in Season 1 that didn't make sense. No girls are turned into electric eels. Foltest was annoyingly pretty and pretty unapologetic that he banged his sister in the books, not a fat slob who denied it. Yennefer knew Geralt wished to simp for her for eternity instead of having a screeching fit. Eyck wasn't killed taking a dump. Dopplers don't murder people, and Cahir wasn't a fanatic. Calanthe herself was a very restrained, dignified woman and Cintra didn't kill elves - she didn't yell for beer after walking in splattered with blood and looking like Lauren's first Self-Insert.
A lot more people seemed forgiving about those changes when it was pretty clear there was no intention to follow the books. The racebending was just the beginning. From what I gathered from Season 2, it went completely off the rails from the second episode. The first episode changed shit with Nivellen, but you had come to expect that. When they hit Kaer Morhen though, this is when the show went full-on Fanfiction. The type of fanfiction everyone makes fun of.
Right now, you can farm karma on reddit if you say "Well, I read the books and I ENJOYED Season 2!" There seems to be a lot of ass-patting for having an unpopular opinion (or the paid shills are all directed to these posts to love-bomb them), but for the most part it seems it was a universally hated season. Not just by book readers too, as there's been some who loved the first season who have started backpeddling once they realized the entire show is just a vehicle for Lauren's Original Universe donotsteal.
