Why would anyone try and make a serious drama out of Resident Evil? The in-game plot is basically a Saturday morning cartoon with edgy violence.

RE4 plot, 2019 setting: The President's daughter, Tiffany Graham, gets kidnapped by infected Antifa spics. Transmasculine Leon Kennedy stays home and lectures straight white people about why this is their fault, points out that spic bio-mutants are super oppressed but also brave and fabulous. Saddler, the true hero of the series, brings Tiffany to the US and she infects the President. Everyone lives in a bio-mutant utopia.
Also, Ada Wong is a bull dyke.

It was standard video game stuff. What made it bad was how convoluted the series lore had gotten by that point. RE (like all horror) works best when it's basic: mysterious monstrosities, a "haunted" mansion, an undead city in shambles, people trying to survive. By the time CV rolled around we had several different viruses, several different antagonists, not-so-convincing explanations for a lot of the series plot points, and you had to understand all of it to really understand the story of CV. It felt like a soap opera, and it was less effective as horror because of that.

Why a drama/horror series and not an action horror series , what I love about the orginal 2 games was that it was about Highly trained people in an isolated incident that slowly grew into to a city wide epidemic . Highly trained Police oficers being torn to shreds by the living dead while the faceless corporation does it's best to wipe the problem by any means necessary. Playing RE2 remake reminded me why i loved the classic games . and honestly I don't think RE works in a post apocaliptic setting it's all about the epidemic and the people trying to uncover the origin behind it whilist the conspirators try to stop them from finding the truth. hell even RE7 was an isolated Incident , it never became a world ending scenarion.

Because Netflix is trying to fool us.
They are gobbling up some what smaller genre propertiesh, because they are desperate to have as much original content as quickly as possible. They've seen the writing on the wall for years, they aren't going to be allowed to make billions streaming other companies content.
Here's the problem, genre stuff is expensive. Plain horror probably the least, that has a tradition of being cheap and coy with their special effects. Action, Space Opera, Superhero, and fantasy come with high price tags. On location filming, choreography, digital effects.
You know what is cheap? Two people sitting in a room, angry at each other. You have one dramatic thing happen, them you shuffle your characters, put them on a set, and have them just talk.
I really noticed this trend with Jessica Jones season 2, Luke Cage followed suit, and iron fist looked much the same before I quit the Netflix Marvel shows. I realized Netflix didn't want to make Superhero shows, just dramas with people who had Superpowers.
So, expect Jill to be Black, Chris to be gay, Claire to be inexplicably Asian, Jill is fucking Rebecca and Wesker, and everyone spending more time talking about their personal life than stuck in insanely built compounds with monsters.

Claire will be (south) Asian. Ada Wong will be a feisty black chick. Jill will be replaced by some equivalent of Milla Jovovich's character.
Some of their shows still look fairly expensive. I mean if Altered Carbon season 2 is anything like the second book of the series it's based on then it'll need even more effects than the first one.
