One question, the only thing I found new was the 18-month predeployment training phase for a 6-month deployment. Is it always the predeployment that long, and more or less what is it about? I mean, I have an idea, I'm not an idiot. It's just a year and a half for training, seems like a lot.

I've heard of a handful of instance of platoons being pulled out of workup early to do something, but nearly always they have 18 months of training before every deployment. They have six months to go to individual schools like sniper, breaching, JTAC; six months of working with the platoon; and then six months of different platoons in a SEAL team training together. It is a lot more than other military units which IMO is SEALs have exponentially lower casualty rates than other units and got chosen for missions that traditionally went to other services.

The SEAL Team 6 training cycle has changed more and there's a bit of conflicting info from interviews. The consensus was from 9/11 until around 2008-9ish after Green Team they had 3 months of training, 3 months where they are on a standby for a hostage rescue and can't leave Virginia but are still training locally and 3 months of deployment. A SEAL officer on The Team House said there was a point where ST6 was responsible for Africa and Afghanistan at the same time (CAG couldn't do it or something) where they were doing four months of training and then four months deployed over and over again. Now that Afghanistan is over and they added a fourth squadron there is more time to train. Silver Squadron Operator Andrew Sullivan said in the interview posted ITT that they have a year of training and standby for every four month deployment.

Literally Nathan. He's fucking unironically mad. I also love the books behind the hatchet are all the classic survivalists books, like he's an anti-government agent even though he worked for one of the most well-funded and supported Government hit teams. If I was a Colonel, I'd look at Nathan as the perfect, unthinking, disposable killer whose consciousness is an unquestioning narcissistic rationalization of his life in the hands of Christ. If he dies, his family will even be joyful because you can tell them he died like a warrior, and he's in heaven now, waiting for them. No problems for you.

Yeah, and BUD/S seem to suck. The worst part, IMO is that they injure so many young, fit men. They seem to be going for a Chinese approach to getting top-athletes, where you create an ultra tough training regime, and you end up with a bunch of survivors of the training who are top-notch. If you've got the numbers, you can do it. Pretty heartless though.

Brent Tucker acts so weird. First, he's acting like a Reddit Janny, "careful with what you want to know" and shit. Then he says HE (not the father) is having a hard time dealing with it, but he gets back to work. And then says he prefers the dad wouldn't have asked (maybe for him own sake).

In a certain way, I think it shows that Brent is not an absolute sociopath, who will lie about a teammate's death and feel no remorse about it. But damn, shit happens in war with dangerous things like explosives. It won't ruin the reputation of the Delta to have a friendly fire incident. A cover-up looks worse.

IMO, someone "up higher" is really pushing on Brent and others to "protect the brand".

The war was in 2014 I believe, but he could have been working there in an intelligence capacity, perhaps. Or doing some spooky shit we don't know.

And to be honest, the spec ops had always had the rot to a certain, if you go back far enough, even to Vietnam (read about William Garrison and the Phoenix program). Gothic Serpent, for example as well, was pretty badly done, and they had to be rescued by the UN, or they wouldn't have made it.

But the GWOT just amplified the rot due to overwork and gave us gems like IG where people can overshare and leak shit unintentionally.

Hopefully someone who was in the Army can chime in. I believe "C" stands for "combat" and "O" stands for operational. Like working with a foreign military overseas but not an active warzone. It says Lavigne has a total of 5 combat deployments but only 4 are listed by country. That's interesting. The timeline of his 2015 deployment to Iraq matches up with a mission Kyle Morgan talked about where they went to Iraq to do one big mission and kept getting delayed.

During the Stars and Stripes podcast with Mark Leshikar's sister who knew Lavigne, she said he was haunted by having to kill a child soldier. That sounds like Afghanistan. My theory is that he started talking more liaison positions like Niger and Israel because he didn't want to go back to Afghanistan again.

Andy Stumpf is a fucking midwit. I've never been to CQD and I have no horse in the race about if it's great or not. But Andy missed the point entirely of what it is about.

A spoiler for that video, at 3 minutes a female cop, because of the stress of sensory deprivation and sudden adrenaline from the hood, shot with simunitions an unarmed man. And she then swore that he had a gun, even though it's on video that he had nothing in his hand. Stress makes you unable to process reality properly if you don't know how to manage it.

CQD was NOT meant to teach you how to be a martial arts expert. It was supposed to train the switch from aggressive to passive, without letting it interfere in your decision-making process. And what Cole noticed in his book and interviews was that the SEALs who had the most trouble with the switch on and off were the ones later with the most problems with war-crimes, almost universally.

But Andy here says "Ohh, yeah, they taught me some wooo-wooo martial arts with a hood, that we won't ever use because we have guns and shiiieeet and MMA is best." Also, SERE is very different from BUD/S and phobias may come to the surface that the person didn't know. Agoraphobia, claustrophobia (in a jungle or highly wooded enviroment), getting lost alone, the stress of getting hunted down and captured, etc. There are many reasons why somebody who isn't just slapped around quits SERE and realizes the commando life is not for them.

But that's not the first time Andy surprised me with his remarks (hence why I barely watch his podcast).

When Matthew Cole, very politely, told him about the universal use of steroids and PEDs in BUD/S from FIRST-HAND ACCOUNTS, Andy's reaction was "huh, I don't know why they would use them. Having muscle is not even useful for BUD/S." Like, bro, if you can't understand why people take PEDs for some 6-12 month long physical evolutions where you are graded on your performance, then you are an idiot. Like, why did Lance Armstrong use steroids and PEDs even though he didn't need muscle?

Also, you can get performance-dropped from BUD/S if the instructors don't think you are up for it. I've heard it many times. They'll look at your swim and run times, and even though you may not be dead last, they will look at you and say "Sorry kid, you are performance dropped." and you are out without even ringing the bell. You are then telling me there's no incentive to use PED's?

Sorry, my language was a bit extreme. I don't think Andy is a total idiot. I just think he's a hard-headed man with little intellectual curiosity and once he gets an idea or forms an opinion, it's done, and he will try to use excuses not to think about it. If you listen to his interviews, he will interrupt his guests all the time with his own world view, and I'm like "Andy, shut up and listen for once". Also, he always talks like he had 5 coffee cups that morning which makes it more aggravating.
