Agree to disagree on the whole CQD thing. But I definitely agree with this. I think it could be TBI. On early episodes of his podcast he wasn't as bad. The constant interrupting, losing track of the topic, and laughing at random inappropriate moments are all potential symptoms of brain injury. He has a history of concussions and was knocked out by a car bomb on his last deployment to Afghanistan. He also said he was awkward as a kid and believes he could be on the autism spectrum.

Yeah. It's weird. I really don't get the cult-like adoration. I've even seen them come up with weird copes like "they aren't in good shape like I expected, so that must mean they're humble and educated." Like, what? Maybe they just aren't in great shape. Go jerk off to bodybuilders if you want that aesthetic.

Yeah, fucking bullshit. I added it to the OP as an example of SOCOM sweeping it up. I will add Fort Bragg with a special mention too in the OP. I do wonder why he deleted Lavigne's record, but it is what it is.

equipment being stolen isn't unique to seals or even sof. Those USMC knight armament iron sights were being sold on the ebay and lgs' until the dod came knocking. some army surplus store near ft benning was caught buying go fast gear from near by rangers. I think even some of the mastiff uniforms were being stolen and sold.

The noticeable thing is that in such an "Elite" and "well-funded" unit as the SEALs, they should fall prey to corruption for petty cash at the cost of the taxpayer. If you are a Pog unit or Marine unit that gets shit pay, it's more understandable. But men who are expected to do the most sensitive missions, stealing equipment for extra income? It's like the captain Philips money. 30k is almost nothing, especially if you are sharing it with 4 other dudes who want a cut. And doing such a thing has an asymmetrical cost on your brand, reputation and casts doubts on the character of the soldiers.

SOF get paid the same as all other military personnel. Which isn't a lot. A huge percentage of military families rely on food stamps and other government assistance. Does that justify stealing? I don't know. But it's understandable.

It's more like "if you go to dive school we'll kick you a couple hundred extra bucks a month, but if you get hurt for any reason and can't dive anymore, we'll take the pay away". It's a fucked up system. It incentivizes them to lie about having injuries because they're afraid of not being able to support their families.

Well, they also get the bonus for hazard pay and deployments and some extras. I still don't think it justifies stealing. If you wanted to make money, 1st of all, you should be an officer. And second, why would you choose a career in SOF for money? Besides, not to diminish their work, but a lot of money goes into supporting them. Their food, their housing allowances, their free medical insurance for their family. Then in operations, the helicopters, the fuel, parachutes, the spare parts, maintaining of the vehicles, facilities to train, the procurement of all the super Gucci weapons and also ISR.

A fuck-ton of money is spent before even a door is kicked. They don't get a tough deal for the job they chose, imo.

pretty sure an e4 seal gets paid the same as an e4 maintainer. the seal gets extra bennies from hazard pay but the pay rate is the same. the real pay comes after the military as a contractor for the cia or entertainment (which is dead now)

it sure is! the standard route for sof after getting out is the CIA security team, private contractor, tier 1 gun instructor for civilians, or podcast, tv, movie star, author. or being a wreck struggling in the civ life.

fighting goat fuckers fucked up a lot of sof missions. 2 seals died during a boat assualt in the red sea. coast gaurd says the seals werent following sop; the coast guard do way more boat raids than seals since the gwot. i wouldn't be surprised if the seals can't mine battleships anymore.

marsoc/raiders have a similar problem. Green berets and rangers not so much.
