At high levels that is probably true; it couldn't be true at low levels, because then the only way for anyone to get off zero would be a win-streak. Once you've attained a high skill level, though, it's assumed that a lot of your matches will be against much lower-ranked players, and those will be pretty much sure-win.

In order to design it so you'll stay at the same ranking if you have a 50/50 chance of beating another player at the same ranking, the system has to be weighted against high-ranked players. If you're a top-ranked player, for every time you play another top player you'll also play a bunch of matches against lower-ranked players, and you should win a high percentage of them. Those wins don't give you a lot of points, but they do add up, and the win/loss difference in matches against equal players has to be offset by the amount of points you'll get by beating up the worse players. Otherwise, just the fact that you're constantly beating up lower-ranked players would cause your ranking to gradually go up.

Unless the game just didn't let you play against lower-ranked players very often, but that would make the competition very limited at your level and there wouldn't be any way for the lower-ranked players to get better.

It’s not just video game skills that he lost through his soylent-infused trooning. He also lost quite a bit of intellect. Speedrunning is so far from the knowledge sphere needed to craft ELO ranking algorithms and systems.

Speedrunners only challenge other players through time completion. There’s no matchmaking involved nor are other players directly standing in your way of being the best speedrunner. It’s just you and whatever exploits you find in the game.

If he meant by knowing algorithms as a speedrunner, he knows about routing/pathing in a game, then he’s either really dumb or he’s sipping from the Rat King collective juice that grants them incredible Dunning-Kruger effect powers.

Trooning and soy potions give you the magical power to fail at anything while thinking you're good at it, and even to fail at shit you used to be able to do.

Has anyone improved at all after trooning, since it's supposed to be this amazing process of becoming the real you, as opposed to turning into a horrifying freak of a ghoul?
