Hey girls of the farms, so recently I was briefly looking through the ball jointed doll thread when I remembered that I was pretty obsessed with doll-customizing videos back in highschool so I decided to make this thread! We can talk about our favorite creators, OOAK (one of a kind) dolls, and if you want we can talk about Monster High in general along with other doll series!

I havent seen a Dollightful video since she had her son but I always loved watching the way she'd problem solve or just start over on a project and be perfectly fine with it. Honestly gave me a lot of new perspective on how to approach my art. Not to mention her concept sketches and the way she breaks down why she chose what she did for the doll is so nice.

Hextian used to be one of my favorites but his style was just not for me. Im also not a fan of the way he really just doesnt ever improve on clothing and sculpting when he does it. He's fantastic, but I just don't like his drag queen style of everything.

The Doll Fairy and Moon Light Jewel are also pretty amazing, I believe she makes and 3d prints her own models now right?

Dollightful really helped me with my art back then, it's mostly just me with my obsession with lolita fashion. Also the fact that one of her dolls is based on Monster Hunter, which is super based.

Sorry-not-sorry to necro this thread, but I've been rewatching Ever After High (the OG webseries) and honestly? It's pretty good, I like the aesthetic and character designs for the most part! I will say that I'm honestly glad it never got a reboot, especially in current year because I hate what G3 did to Monster High so much.

Agreed. The only thing I like about G3 is the different body types of the dolls allow for more variety as bases in customizations. As standalone MH dolls and what they did to the characters, I don’t like them. Wipe their faces away with acetone and put them into the supply box.

They had all of the old MH movies on Prime, so I was having fun rewatching those. I’d love to know all of your favorite ghouls. For me, it’s Abbey. Abbey, my beloved. I own her dead tired sleepover doll, but I’d love to own her original doll.

Honestly, I absolutely LOVE Abbey's (ORIGINAL) design, the white hair with blue and pink highlights give me snow cone vibes and it's genuinely so peak. I also like Lagoona since she was my first MH doll (THAT I LOST FUCKKKKK) and Rochelle, the latter mainly for her pastel color scheme that actually looks super cute. There's a Toys 'R Us in Merivale that I should visit so maybe I'll go and see if they have any Monster High dolls there? I could even try my hand at customizing, even if admittedly it's something way out of my comfort zone.

I LOVED Abbey, her main outfit was one I could say was perfect, now look at her! She's UGLY!

God I miss Ever After High. It deserved way more recognition than Descendants and I'm really sad about it. But at the same time, Im grateful it never got the Monster High treatment.

I could imagine the worst: Introducing a NEW student who's the daughter child of the Prince and the Pauper (yes, both of them) who's genderfluid because xe thinks they're like, two people at once or some shit. Oh, and basically ruining the whole design philosophy too. Maybe it is better to let sleeping dogs lie.

Still mad that the EAH/MH crossover movie never happened.

Seriously. Look at this travesty. Who is this? Still mad they made Frankie they/them too.

They took away her cuntiness... *sigh* And yeah, making Frankie a they/them genderspecial really ruined most discussion around her, it would've at least been fine if they gave her a pooner sibling but NOPE.

Sorry for the triple post but y'all see this?

How do you gals feel about Kjersti?
I love her, and the other ghouls they brought in for the Brand-Boo Students line!
I still have Isi Dawndancer, and I'm considering selling her (she's controversial, so she's worth money lol), but she's so pretty.
And Batsy Claro, my beloved.

I loooove the grass-weaving bat theme, and her color palette is really refreshing. She's even got ridges modelled into her nose!

And people even found concept art for a G3 reboot of her!

I think it would've worked if they'd focussed more on the green, but she's supposed to be albino.

Don't.... (:_(
I love Ever After High so much it makes me mad... I have two of the SDCC dolls (Raven and Cerise), and I'm kicking myself for not getting Cedar (even if her SDCC release was creepy). I'm looking into buying Royally Ever After Apple, too, to complement Raven's SDCC doll.
1773211310550.jpeg
But she's over 200 fucking dollars because MATTEL CANCELLED THEM!! :heart-empty::(
I'm so sad we never got Ramona Badwolf:
1773210854586.jpeg
Or Thronecoming Duchess Swan.......
1773211009478.jpeg
(Omg Faybelle in the leggings in that dress is so 2014...)
And so many other cute dolls, I hate it!!!
They did ever after high so dirty. All because Disney was mad about the whole princess thing.

anyone have recommendations for paints for face ups? I have a project doll coming in, and I haven't done a faceup in *years*, and I want to do something better than the craft Walmart paints lmao

I would've LOVED having one of these dolls as a kid, and I'm so fucking mad that Disney made them cancel it because the concept was overlapping with Descendants, even though the concept of fairy tales is fucking copyright free.

The Descendants dolls weren't even that good. The printed fabric looked and felt like shit, and they just looked too human...
1773240410931.jpeg
They've got that loud Disney Channel aesthetic, and it just rubs me the wrong way.
It hurt me to see the degradation of the EAH dolls over time, because you went from:
1773240544076.jpeg
-multi part outfit (dress, leggings, cape)
-multiple jewelry pieces
-belt
To...
1773240940541.jpeg
-one piece dress
-one large plastic accessory
-one jewelry piece

It's not like the quality of the character declined, it 's just they could no longer put money into making them.

It's genuinely tragic, because I love the original designs so much. :heart-empty:

I've had success using Warhammer/Citadel paints and Mr. Hobby paints in the past. Generally, I have found that paints intended for model miniatures and the like work just as well for dolls. Some of the fine detail brushes for model minis and Gundams are also useful. If you have a hobby store in your area, it might be worth a look.
