They did cast an actress as Diana Ross but her scenes were on the cutting room floor. Since it was heavily done by his defenders and family....do you suppose there's like hours of scenes we did not get?

Also lmao the music exec played by miles teller worked on the film.

The guy who runs Puck and does The Town podcast has read the original script. He says the entire third act was meant to exonerate Jackson and make Jordan Chandler and his family out to be the real villains of the story after Joe Jackson. Thank fuck Chandler’s lawyers were quick to the draw.

Remember they shot that entire final act, so all that footage still exists. I’ve read that Ross, Janet, and a few others explicitly forbade that they be used as characters in this shit show.

Ultimately biopics fail for me because they try to crame too much of someone's life into a 2 hour frame rather than focus on one or two moments in their career/life.

Weird fake biopic.
And it's one of the most brilliant things I've seen in the past few years.
half the complaining about the movie from critics was that they didn't make Freddie gay enough.
Freddie himself would have said it was also not debauched enough. Rami Malek put in a solid performance but it was for the rose-colored-glasses version of Freddie, not the real guy.
I don't think there'll ever be a 'good' MJ biopic in our lifetimes.
I have always contended that the best rock biopic ever is This is Spinal Tap. It made multiple rock stars confused and upset because it hit THAT close to home. It really says a lot that a parody of rock star life is more truthful than any biopic could ever be.

Highest opening for a biopic in history.

Terrible to see this pedophile get rehabilitated. Anything to keep the royalties coming

MJ was and remains too big too fail, don't need rehabilitation when you're pretty much uncancellable. It was noted that during the 2000s when his public image was in the gutter, his celebrity associates had deserted him and he looked like a fucking ghoul, his music sales would nevertheless increase when he had a big negative press story. The This Is It movie also did gangbusters even though he was obviously at his lowest point, although his death did pump that up.

I bet there's a professional AI reincarnation already well in the works, his estate would reanimate his screaming corpse to make it perform again if it was possible.

He was a laughingstock for most of the 90s and 2000s. I remember kids joking about him like a boogeyman. Liking his music was not cool. His career really dipped then after the first round of allegations. Then he died and it was like all those weird interviews never happened

I can't fucking wait until these musician biopics spawned by the success of Bohemian Rhapsody die a miserable death.
Madonna's died apparently because she couldn't really make it work with what she envisioned.

Mariah Carey is working on one based on her memoir. Britney Spears as well.

Someone on X suggested Marvin Gaye but in all honesty you do not want one. That man was haunted by tragedy and darkness. If they include Tammi Terrell it might work. But how are you gonna shoot the finale with his death?
