I have observed multiple people recently trying to say that the autism community on Tumblr already agrees that self-diagnosis doesn't hurt anyone, and that people should ideally come to accept it for every mental condition.

These same people months earlier were trying to shame and manipulate actual autistic people who disagreed with them and ended up with all of them either leaving or being turned into subordinates of the self-diagnosed.

It's a madhouse.

It's the first time I've seen a madhouse taken over by the sane people and that being a bad thing.

Kids pretending to have mental illnesses on the internet isn't that new either, but it used to be that you'd chew out someone who's clearly faking for attention. I miss those days.

Nevar 4get the Great Sonicide of 2007.

It's the first time I've seen a madhouse taken over by the sane people and that being a bad thing.

I'm not sure I would consider these self-DXers as "sane."

These aren't people who suspect they may have a certain mental illness and then go to a doctor (or multiple doctors, because doctors are human and can be wrong) to try and get a for-real diagnosis and pursue treatment. They want pity and they want an excuse to get away with bad behavior. They want a trump card to use on anybody who gets mad at them to guilt them into apologizing. They want a reason for why their normal feelings of teenage isolation actually make them different from all the normies who just don't get it.

Basically, they're either typical teenagers or adults who never matured emotionally past adolescence.

Funny story: a friend of mine was playing an online game, and was talking about mental illness with a self-proclaimed multiple system.

Said multiple system proceeded to tell him that he probably had paranoid personality disorder. It's gone past Tumblr to fucking video games now.

It's a disturbing to think how much they want to become the disorder in order to get away from every shred of responsibility in their lives.

And the best thing is, they'll get their wish.

Any prospective employer is going to do a quick Google and see this shit. "She claims she's actually 17 different personalities including fictional characters, borderline, suicidal, and hates all white people and men? Next applicant."

When you see a Tumblrina claiming every mental illness she can think of and suicide baiting to get pity, just remember that one day she'll get her wish. She'll be unemployed, probably homeless, with no prospects or hope of a better future. Then people really will pity her.

And they're going to see they're not seeking treatment and have a history of mental breakdowns at the silliest things. I've heard employers will be able to look at stuff like that now, frightening really but even more reason to not pull stunts like this.

This is why I tell people not to post shit like that public ever. No pictures. No personal info. No real names.

What's even worse about self-diagnosing being a fad now is that people who actually have legitimate mental illnesses are driven further and further away from discussing them, since now they most likely won't be taken seriously at all. Tumblr has a massive userbase; it'd be a bit foolish to assume that nobody on there has a mental disorder at all... but then again, it's also ridiculous to see that practically everyone has at least five. Like... how in the hell could anyone operate in life with so many things apparently fucked up with their brain?

Minor powerleveling here, but...
My dad in particular has 3, and he barely operates at all. The most he does is sleep and work on building computers, hence why I believe it'd be virtually impossible to operate well in life with five or more.

I've also found that a lot of these self-diagnosers also scream about how they're so mistreated because their parents decided to restrict their internet access. It's child abuse, according to them.

Already happened with PTSD, I already talked a bit about how I've watched people with that get mocked because of the Tumblr corruption of what triggers actually are. Might have already happened with DID too. What's sad about the PTSD thing is that many people who have it tend to suffer alone or blame themselves for not being able to 'get over it'. Pretty sure coming out and admitting they have that mental illness and getting treated like a hormonal angsty teenager won't help.

Slight bit of powerlevel as well -- Had a friend who was held against her will for suicidal ideation (she also didn't attempt although she had obtained what she needed for her method), and I believe she was also held for a week. Additionally, had to keep going for weekly checkups for at least two or so months.
Rofl at the thought of vade having to do all of that after her e-suicide was reported.

why would you want to self diagnose if you can't even prescribe yourself drugs?

That's kind of the point - a lot of these idiots don't actually want drugs, they just want those sweet oppression points so they can use it in Tumblr's weird social status system. And also a way to eschew guilt when they're called out for being asshats.

It also helps their scores in the Oppression Olympics when what they diagnose themselves with can't easily be solved by taking a prescription or two. That's why you see so many kids claiming personality disorders. There's a million medications for depression and anxiety, but there's no magic pill for DID, PTSD, or any personality disorder. And of course, therapy's expensive, and a lot of parents won't pay to have their dumbass kid be "treated" for something they don't have. So since these kids "can't get help", they're free to milk their self-diagnosis for every bit of pity it's worth.

Anyone remember the Supernatural fandom fake suicide epidemic this time last year? I'm under no illusions about just how screwed up Tumblrinas can be, but that one was particularly infuriating. So many posts detailing how they'd 'slit their throats and the paramedics are on their way' etc, with scores of other users going in to total panic mode as a result. I saw a few that seemed genuinely perplexed and horrified and were trying to do their best to help people, and the fact that the fakers were using that to bolster their own theatrics... Part of me wonders if they'll ever grow up and look back on this shit with shame, but a larger part believes that they'll resort to that type of behaviour time and time again throughout their lives. The fakers want to be in the spotlight and the enablers want to play the ministering angel. It all just spirals in to one neverending, self perpetuating shitshow: one that has no interest in supporting those that are genuinely suffering.

All the idiots who self diagnose with life crippling mental illnesses and fake suicide for attention really need to spend some time in a psych ward. That was a kick in the ass for one of my high school friends who used to pull that shit. She got sent to in patient for a week, and was suddenly cured of the laundry list of mental illnesses she had and a lot of the shit she talked about (mostly being abused by her parents) were suddenly non-issues.

A lot of these people probably do have depression or anxiety, both of which can be absolutely devastating. But they've gravitated to this stupid website where you get followers by being a special snowflake, so it only encourages them to become even more insular and focus on cultivating a stupid long list of made up crap, because depression isn't exotic enough.

Let's not forget the whole, "my mental illness makes me soooo much more of an artist!!!" No, contrary to popular belief, being mentally ill doesn't make you more creative. I suffer from (legitimately diagnosed and medicated!) depression and OCD and it can actually do quite the opposite. It zaps it out of you, and you don't feel like making shit. You can create art that was inspired by what you felt, but you're not going to do it while you're suffering. Assholes.

To be fair, that belief/stereotype was around a loooong time before tumblr. I do agree with you, though.

I do remember that. At the time I was gearing up to have surgery and I didn't have time or energy to look into it, so it was ages before I found out it was all fake. I hope that they're all fucking ashamed of themselves, if not now then maybe someday, because Holy shit what a fucked-up thing to do.

Slightly related to this, and I hate to powerlevel, but I have a friend who attempted suicide a little over a month ago, on Halloween night, because some guy was harassing him online because the dude was mad about vidya games.
Since then, my friend has found it very difficult to be on the computer for extended periods of time--mostly because his parents are trying to help him recover, and being on the Internet for extended periods of time--at least for him--is extremely counterproductive. So he's starting to manage his time better.

If these people actually have serious mental illnesses, they shouldn't be spending 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the computer. They're isolating themselves and making their conditions worse.

What I dislike most about tumblr mental illness is how they actively encourage people to stay sick. Courtesy of Springtrap for this example:

Yes, encourage someone who is paranoid to live in fear and give into their delusions. Tell them to stay inside so they can never make a living and shut themselves out to the point where they'll never be able to.

I see it quite often with depression, telling people it's okay if you leave dishes unwashed or don't take the trash out or don't brush your teeth, all things that are incredibly unhealthy and unsanitary for those with depression to get into the habit of doing. It's really not okay.
