There is nothing inherently wrong with liking, what I like to call, "General Audience" movies.

Like any artform, books, TV, stage, or film, there are things made to appeal to as many people as possible. That doesn't mean they don't have value. That just means they are designed to have a broad appeal for all ages, sex, and background, and whatever qualifiers there are. In the 80s, this would have been Star Wars, ET, and even Indiana Jones to some extent. That doesn't make them bad films. On the contrary, I love them. But they are designed to have a broad appeal. In 2019, the MCU falls into this category. That doesn't make them bad. That doesn't mean there aren't good performances in them and that there is anything wrong with liking exciting movies like this. It just means that the MCU is designed to appeal to everyone, or as many people as possible.

Then you have Scorsese films which are designed to be more challenging and focus more on the art, vision, and message than trying to appeal to the widest audience possible. Scorsese is loved and appreciated for his style and his ability to craft a detailed and meaningful story through the visual medium. Taxi Driver is most likely not going to appeal to kids and families, and Goodfellas isn't going to be an appealing romantic story, but people that like something a little more complex will appreciate the themes, characters, performances, and other tools Scorsese uses to tell the story. Scorsese's goal is not to make films that everyone will like. I mean fuck, he made Last Temptation of Christ, which was majorly controversial at the time. He's not looking for mass appeal. He is out to achieve his vision and his art, and those that appreciate his style will appreciate his films.

There is nothing wrong with liking one type of film over the other, and I see nothing wrong with what Scorsese said. He was asked about it, he gave his opinion, and that's it. I'd disagree with him to some extent, but I'd also love to have a conversation with the guy and pick his brain because I find him to be fascinating. I'd disagree with him, point out the merits of something like Winter Soldier and Infinity War, but then also ask him about Goodfellas and Taxi Driver because I love those movies. I would never in a million years say "Oh you don't like my movie? Well FUCK YOU! Your movies weren't even that good anyway!"

This whole idea of nerds treating their hobbies like a religion that they have to defend is beyond ridiculous and they need to chill the fuck out. You are embarrassing yourselves.

Who here is hyped for Black Widow? Who here is hyped for The Eternals? Who here is hyped for Shang Chi?

Who is hyped for Doctor Strange 2 [in about 2 years] Spiderman 3 [in about 2 years], thor 4 [in about 2 years], BP 3 [in like 3 years], Blade [in like 3 years], and GotG 3 [in 3 maybe 4 years]
Doctor Strange 2 sounds really cool. Also the GotG movies are my favorite. And I trust Taika Waititi to make Lady Thor watchable. He’s literally the only person alive who could.

Every new thing I hear about Black Widow makes me want to see it less and less. I guarantee you the 30 seconds we got of Ronin in Endgame will be more interesting than anything that happens in Black Widow.
Like what, eh?

All I know is that I loved Florence Pugh in Midsommar almost as much as I loved Anya Taylor -Joy in The VVitch and I would see just about anything with her in it.

Not him, but I also assumed it was going to be more of a "spy movie" than what I'm getting the idea it is now. Apparently it takes place immediately after Civil War and she fights Red Guardian in it, and because everything released suggests that Red Guardian is "Soviet Captain America" I feel like we're just going to get what everyone Civil War pretended it was going to be until the ending; Black Widow doing flippy shit against an "ultimate solder".

Dave Hayters pitch from the early 2000's was way more interesting;

"What I tried to do was use the backdrop of the splintered Soviet Empire—a lawless insane asylum with 400-some odd nuclear missile silos. It was all about loose nukes, and I felt it was very timely and very cool. Unfortunately, as I was coming up on the final draft, a number of female vigilante movies came out. We had Tomb Raider and Kill Bill, which were the ones that worked, but then we had BloodRayne and Ultraviolet and Æon Flux. Æon Flux didn't open well, and three days after it opened, the studio said, 'We don't think it's time to do this movie.'"

I'll follow it with an open mind, but I'm about 80% sure I know exactly what it'll be.

I just want some damn closure.
Also we are still getting her origin story.

Why havent the soy boys commented on how problematic that is

Well considering Marvel is at peak yourfired.gif levels with Jeremy Renner maybe it's a blessing. Especially considering how pissed people were that Nat died over his worthless ass.
All it takes is a punch and a kick to your wife and Marvel/Disney will end you.

I trust the BW team more than the Cap Marvel team tbh. Theres so many theories going around since there will probably be multiple Black Widows. I know they cast someone to play Nat's mom and then who ever is playing her dad Ivan. (Possibly Ray Winstone?)

I'm just nervous Russia is gonna be all over Disney like a hawk

There's no money in Russia, they don't have China-tier influence.

Pickle Rick woman will write Pickle Hulk series for Disney+.

What the hell are you doing you aren't allowed to make fun of these movies here? You wanna be a stick in the mud pretentious putz whose afraid of strong black wimmin?

Sarcastic strawmanning aside, this will probably be cancerous and was that writer one of the diversity hires for Season 3?

Also:

This is fine. Nothing wrong with this at all. Not making bad choices because the franchise has already had it's day, nope.

In all seriousness I don't really see a future in which the MCU doesn't generate negativity from audiences with these "bold" choices.

COPE readings are off the charts!

Yes, and they immediately brought them back in the next one, proving Scorsese's point. How many main characters have ACTUALLY died in the MCU? Stark. Black Widow, who is still getting a solo film. Who else, right Tony Stark.

This may have been shared in the past. But do these characters (in the movie version) look appealing to you at all?
And it's an obvious cost cutting measure because they all look the same, when the original designs looked so diverse.

‘Black Panther’ lead Chadwick Boseman struck back on Friday, telling BBC 5 Live that Scorsese misunderstood at least one Marvel hit, due to the color of his skin.

“If he saw Black Panther, he did not get that. He did not get that there was this feeling of being unsure. There was this feeling of not knowing what was going to happen that black people felt,” he told the station.

“Cause we never had a superhero like this before. We thought, you know, white people will kill us off, so it’s a possibility that we could be gone.”

lmao Black Panther was just shitty wish fulfillment for the WE WUZ KANGS variety of black people, there's nothing deep or significant about it.

Oh, I hope this never ends.

First thing I saw online was people sneering at him because he had the NERVE to have a somewhat unfavorable opinion of their Marvel Cinematic Universe's impact on the art and business of cinema.

Isn't he Chinese? Pot meet kettle

Black Panther is used a lot when it comes to Scorsese's comments. That film must be the most protected film in the business, like it has this wall that protects it and makes it seem like it's some fucking cinema masterpiece to the general audience but when you take a look at the wall it's just average and an agenda piece. The fact it got an oscar nomination was fucking embarrassing and not for the fact it's a capeshit film but for that third act, that lazy CGI third act and it gets oscar nomination? Holy shit, that scene alone showed such unprofessionalism that if Scorsese happens to watch it one day, he is not going to change his mind lol he is going to laugh his ass off for being proved right or fucking cry at how cinema has fallen this deep.

If there is one MCU film that maybe possibly could be somewhat enjoyed a little by Scorsese is Winter Soldier (I loved it) but even then I imagine him saying "who the fuck are these people and why should I care? Do I have to watch fucking 5 plus themepark films to understand this one?" cause thats's just how the MCU is, it's just tedious television.

But some are really showing such amounts of lunacy when it comes to Scorsese and the MCU. I like Chadwick Boseman, he is a good actor but he fucking ended up looking like an idiot in that interview. Just ignore Scorsese lol.
