Wasn't it Inhumans they kept trying to push as nu-X-Men?
Yes it was. Apparently it was Perlmutter's idea to choke off Fox's property by issuing a mandate to not create any new characters for the X-Men line of books.

What's depressing is that it kinda worked. I mean why else would Fox re-do the Dark Phoenix storyline?

EDIT: Also this will be controversial, but Black Widow is a huge pass for me because The Americans already did the exact same premise with a vastly better actress than ScarJo (Keri Russell). Hell, the cold war setting makes The Americans a vastly better usage of your time on this earth, no capestuff to be found either.

Oh my God I'm imagining keri Russell has Black widow with MCU budget and the Americans writing team doing the script.

I just got a half chub ngl.

I'm interested enough for Guardians 3 ... However, with the announcement of Thor: Love and Thunder, my excitement has been deflated for both Thor AND the Guardians (especially Thor).

Endgame promised us a crossover with Thor and the Guardians. The Russo Brothers gave us a perfect setup for it. Looks like Love & Thunder won't give us that since it will be about Jane. Also, given what James Gunn has said about the third movie so far, it doesn't look like Thor will be in Guardians 3.

So it doesn't look like we'll get a full movie with that crossover, which is really lame. Why even set that up in the first place if they're not going to deliver? I had visions of a road trip movie in space that would have ultimately introduced us to characters like Beta Ray Bill. Instead it looks like Marvel is completely brushing that aside for Natalie Portman.

I'm intrigued enough for Doctor Strange so far, and I'm hoping that Black Widow turns out well. The only MCU movie that I am actually excited for, though? The next Spider-Man movie. That mid-credits scene, man. It was the pitch perfect setup to get me hyped for another Spider-Man movie.

All in all, after Endgame, I'm kind of "done" with the big event crossovers now. I just want some good solo movies now.

Clearly you forgot Red Sparrow which turned out to be a sack of shit.

They apparently are trying to joss Nat not getting a tribute in Endgame by stating that she'll get it in her solo film which is fine but lol @ her not being in the girl power scene. She probably saw it was coming and was like "Lol y'all are embarrassing"

People gonna come for Scarlett's acting despite her nailing the cold emotionless void part of Nat's personality but let's not fucking act like the MCU is the pinnacle of grande acting prestige. Especially when Jeremy Renner exists (and Brie during the final battle because her delivery was bad...) and when Karen Gillan does what I like to call the 'Dan Stevens' where every time she attempts an American accent it always sounds like she's asking a question.

I didn't get "triggered" at the girl power scene in Endgame ... It came across as a curtain call to the badass women in the MCU before Captain Marvel, which I'm fine with (mostly). However ... The scene doesn't completely work because Black Widow isn't there for that curtain call.

Apparently on the day of filming that girl power scene, RDJ hosted a "MCU Women's Luncheon," where all the ladies had a fun lunch together. Everyone was there except for ScarJo because she wasn't there filming on that day (obviously). Pretty damn insulting to celebrate the women in the MCU without Black Widow, I say!

Now, I don't mind Black Widow dying in Endgame. She went out like a goddamn hero. However ... The scene itself doesn't completely work for me because they essentially re-created Gamora's death scene in Infinity War. They even had the same damn music playing. The execution felt "off" because Gamora's death and Natasha's death are two ENTIRELY DIFFERENT situations. Nat at least needed her own music for her death, for god's sake. ScarJo's acting in that scene was fantastic, though (she was great in ALL of Endgame, for that matter).

I know that some fangirls have bitched and moaned about how Tony's death wasn't satisfying because "he needed a happy ending where he retires!" Yeah, no. Tony's arc was fucking perfect, in my eyes. Black Widow's death is the one that left me not completely satisfied. And I am completely in agreement that a Black Widow movie should have happened before Infinity War.

Still love Endgame as a whole, and I still maintain that the highs of that movie greatly outweigh the lows of the movie. I certainly have my nitpicks about it though. And I feel like Black Widow has gotten the short end of the stick compared to the original six Avengers in the MCU, even Hawkeye.

Didn't work for me because I didn't realize that was supposed to be a "permanent" death and didn't believe them when they're all crying at the lake about it either. So the ends of the movie comes and she's still dead, I'm more confused than anything else.

I actually didn't care about movie Black Widow dying because I never cared for movie Black Widow to begin with.

IMO, ScarJo was legitimately awful in the role and reduced what should be a great, multi-layered character to an eternal frown expression.

This. While I'm not going to vouch for Brie as a top tier lead, ScarJo made her look like Chris Evans.

I wouldn't he surprised if her acting (and maybe general demeanor around set, idk) is why this movie concept was delayed for so long. It kinda feels like Marvel is doing because they feel they have to, not because they want to.

Even Maria Hill had more life to her on the screen than Black Widow, and that is literally meant to be a 1-note character.

Here's a question: how much of that bad performance was because Black Widow was basically useless for the entire avengers saga?

I can't think of a single conflict they faced in any of the movies that was suited to her talents.
They only had the one female hero to work with at the time and you simply have to have that in movies today.

Her performance is identical in everything. It wouldn't be much of a stretch to argue she's playing literally the same character across the MCU, Ghost in the Shell and that weird one where she takes a load of drugs and turns into a USB stick.

I'm not talking about her performance as much as I'm talking about the writers not actually giving her character a purpose in the films

She was fine in Winter Soldier where she was mostly used as a way to help Steve evade detection when the plot called for it. A few of the other movies could have used her similarly as a utility player in order to do smaller things here and there. Iron man 3 could have used her to figure out Killian's plot.

That's the thing though, at best she's pretty much a side-kick or like a plot device. Except for times where they could have used her as a full on antagonist there's not much they could have used her for, unless they wanted to treat her like Fury and have her just kind of "around". Which probably would have been cool.

Tbf she will be paired up with Yelena Belova for the film so it'll be interesting. Also possibly Bucky and Flopeye.

But I reccomend reading her solo comics
