(This entire bit is taken from a borderline thesis I wrote on Iceman turning into a raging homo by Sina Grace, so if it reads a bit disjointed, now you know why?). Go to the
Red point for the main point related to the topic.
In the 2000’s, Chuck Austen had an X-MEN run called the Uncanny X-MEN, this was during one of the few times Northstar (one of the gay mutants) was actually on the X-MEN. During that story, Northstar had a crush on Iceman (turned into a raging homo by Sina Grace, an IRL raging homo), who was clearly uncomfortable despite the fact Northstar never acted on it since he knew Iceman was straight (until mind-raped by Jean Gray). Of course, this is the infamous Chuck Austen X-MEN run.
The same run of the X-MEN that had a rogue faction of the Catholic Church trying to make Nightcrawler Pope to cause the rapture (Chuck was hilariously inept when it came to what Catholics actually believe, to the point he dethroned Wolverine: The Shadow Pulpit as the stupidest Catholic-based storyline the X-books ever put out after he wrote The Draco for this run), gave Angel an underaged girlfriend & magic healing blood, established mutants were immune to HIV/AIDS,
All that is not even going into other issues this comic had like:
> Warren (Angel/Archangel) & Paige (Husk) have sex in the air in front of X-MEN & Paige's mom.
> Rednecks in robot suits fight mutants.
> Evil Vatican doing a Fake Rapture via disintegrating communion wafers, & the X-Men arrive to beat them down while shouting scripture.
> Magma, Skin (whose name Austen got wrong somehow), Jubilee, & Bedlam got "crucified" on the lawn of the X-Mansion in Holy War Volume 3:
> Stacy X is a a karen who seethes about a girl being braless, a whore (as in an actual prostitute), & a gooner sex addict (because Austen doesn't know the difference between a whore & a goonette).

This shit continues for 3 more pages, & then she just declared that she's going to go to her room & watch porn if anyone's interested. She then vanished for the better part of 20 IRL years (she was gooning for 20 years, the true goon empress everyone), only to reappear as a surprisingly well-adjusted individual who takes care of babies & helps people understand intimacy on Krakoa.
Mind you, this isn't even the surface. We're barely breathing the oxygen surrounding the retardation of this entire comic run, & it keeps getting worse when you get touch the surface, let alone get past it.
But, this isn't the point I'm trying to get to with this story.
See, Chuck Austen did the OPPOSITE of what everyone was doing at times of marital rage driven writing since the 90s. He ruined character dynamics with love.
All because of this bitch

See, Havok dumped Polaris (whom he was engaged with) at the alter, at & in middle of their wedding, to hook up with a nurse named Annie Ghazikhanian, a human nurse who hated mutants until her son turned out to be one and was taken in by the X-Men. She volunteered to become Xavier School's nurse, & became the object of lust of all male X-MEN (this has a worse reasoning later on) she fell in love with Havok while he was in a coma. The funny fact being that the Nurse was apparently an expy (exposition character) of Chuck Austen’s own wife, only because he was her favorite character. Polaris proceeded to become mentally unstable & dress as Magneto. What a load of shit right? Also, the nurse was BFFs with Northstar, the only gay X-Men at the time because of course she was.
Hell, the writers that came later literally didn't even wanna bother with this plot after Austen left. In fact, the plot worsened. See, Iceman was simping for both her & Polaris, & got a pity kiss before being double-cucked by Havok. It was all so shit that the next run implied Annie's son was a reality warper who was unwittingly making the X-MEN act stupid because he wanted a new daddy & shipped her with Havok, but that was never followed up on either, & Annie & her kid simply stopped existing once Austen was booted off the title.
Now you're probably thinking "was this all worth it for Chuck?" & that's the funniest part, Chuck's marriage got sneeded later when she divorced him. Hell, he seems to have
empowered her divoricing him, alongside his mother doing the same to her father [
A].
Austen wrote one of the most infamous X-MEN runs, & did all this bullshit, for a failed marriage. The only good this run did as a whole is Juggernaut. Juggernaut's redemption was the only decent thing about this run, sleeping with She-Hulk aside. It even managed to stick, sort of, the character is now in a permanent revolving door of good guy or bad guy, currently leaning on good, basically his character doing what he feels like, good or bad, is fueled by this run.
