I think that The Eternals is going to get mild promotion. Aside from Twitter, pretty much nobody cares. I anticipate The Eternals to be just a fart in the wind.

Spider-Man is guaranteed to get promo out the wazoo though ... But that is probably more Sony's task than it is Disney's?

I bet that Doctor Strange and The Multiverse of Madness will get pretty good promo. Doctor Strange is one of the "Classic MCU Avengers" left, and WandaVision was probably the MCU's most successful project this year. I still see people and normies reference WandaVision. I can easily see Marvel riding on that show's wave with Scarlet Witch being in the film.
It's funny because Spiderman No Way Home doesn't even *need* much promotion. I don't give a shit about the MCU as it currently stands, and even I want to see that film. I bet I'm not the only one who that applies to.

Nope. Everyone I've seen who had been squealing about being "done with the MCU after Endgame" turned 360 degrees and walked that back the second NWH got announced. I'd say if the 'rona wasn't an issue, there would have been a reasonable assumption it could have even gotten within spitting distance of Infinity War box office.

it helps that nothing after Endgame seems to matter, before that every film seemed to be slightly connected to the main goal at minimum and would have plot points and references that they wouldnt bother explaining at max. its the reason multiple people i know bothered to watch captain marvel. meanwhile each tv show is self contained meh spinning its wheels for season 2, the films are either prequels or spinoffs of such huge proportions that they might as well have been made back in 2008 with the incredible hulk (remember that film?) seriously did they even explain what Mr.Ten Rings was doing during the whole thanos arc or the snap?

Simu Liu's getting #cancelled right now because someone dug up a reddit comment where he was sympathetic towards pedos

This thread has more screenshots. He posted one comment in r/aznidentity so now he's an incel, even though it seems like it's just this one out of context comment.

He also made this comment about girls not being as good at sports as boys lol, he's right but of course that's not gonna go down well

The account is deleted now but was archived and it does seem to be him. Also apparently if you search "Reddit /u/nippedinthebud" an AMA he did on r/KimsConvenience comes up.
How easily this could have been avoided if he simply never identified himself.

Black Widow was the last MCU film to get major promo and advertising. Meanwhile Shang Chi got nothing but that i can't figure out why. God knows if Eternals will get the same treatment. But now that Simu and Awkwafina are being taken to task we will see.
Even with the limited promotions, it looks like Shang Chi will make as much as Black Widow domestically. I’m not sure how much Premier Access can be blamed for Widow’s performance, but it should be noted that the recent Fast and the Furious movie, which was exclusive to theaters, made only a bit less domestically than Widow, and both are big franchises.

Shang Chi is going to break $350 million but not sure it will have the steam to get past $400 million. Looking it up the budget has is listed as $150–200 million, so likely will lose some money or just break even as for the cinema gross goes. With physical media sales, TV rights and such, the movie will make money at some point.

With all factors, Disney should be happy with that, now if the shit with the actor sticks, I expect them to be sweating. One thing to make edge jokes as James Gunn did, another thing to make serious comments.

If it does stick, I don't expect Disney to shitcan him, but make him go on the apology tour because they won't want to leave the money on the table a Shang Chi 2 and 3 could bring in.

Eternals I think will flop, and not because of covid. The movie just looks too close to the Inhumans which is really the only huge flop MCU has had. I really don't see any hype for it and it's just doesn't stand out in any good or bad ways.

The cast isn't bad, but I can't see one character or actor, the kids will care about. I have to question the likely $20million+ paydays some of the actors have got. Marvel could have been much smarter with the budget could have cut more than a 1/4 off the budget without changing the scale of it.

Shang Chi, is really a no-name in the comics, but you can sell him as a kung fu action man with superpowers. All that Eternals has from the trailers is discount Superman and butch of middle age actors.

My main problem with Eternals right now is why they thought it was a good idea to hire Nomadland lady and let her turn the movie's visuals into the blandest shit ever

You take one look at a Jack Kirby's Eternals panel and you go "holy shit, this stuff looks epic". Thor: Ragnarok had the right idea when it took inspiration from his work and even directly used some of it in the scenarios.

Now you take a look at the Eternals as they are to appear in the MCU. They all look boring as hell, they basically have the standard capeshit modern costumes, you make the image look grayer and you'd have a Snyder movie in your hands

tbh as probably one of the few legitimate "shills" on here, "Shang-chi will outdo Panther!" isn't something I ever saw anywhere.

it being "as important!", sure (also retarded), but never that it would surpass or even come close to it's box office.
I never did myself, though I don't really look either (social media is a disease).

It's a real shame that all they care about is how much melanin or "diverse" a character is nowadays, which is probably from capeshit being a victim of its own success. I'm not black and I still like Spawn - just make a universally likeable character and leave the damn politics behind.

And for the Marvel NOW! wave of superheroes: Young, snarky and smart=/= likeable.

How easily this could have been avoided if he simply never identified himself.

He's just acting in accordance with the Marvel universe, where concealing your identity to protect your family and loved ones currently takes a back seat to outing yourself in front of everyone and getting those sweet, sweet Likes.

I'm actually only excited to see The Eternals..Tom Holland is like anti-hype for me. Angelina Jolie is a great actress on top of 'diversity' actually making sense in the mythos of the eternals.

I mean her movies are good looking and work for the movies she has made in the past, but not at all suited for a movie like this at all or really any big blockbuster.

I mean want to give Marvel props for not making something that looks like the rest of their movies, but this wasn't the way to go with pretty much any capeshit movie, outside maybe something like Old Man Logan or Jonah Hex

Guess Disney wanted to find ways to keep costs low so it could generate more profit with covid still impacting the box office, so they took the risk of cutting the marketing budget and it seems to have worked out, the movie is at over $320million and has some legs on it.

The truth is with something like Marvel, the fanboys and word of mouth are likely the big marketing factors and has been for some time. Upload a trailer of a Marvel movie, and the fanboys/press all spread the word for you, really don't have to pay for tv ads every 15 minutes now or posters everywhere.

I mean still need traditional marketing, but don't need it as much when you have brand evangelists. something Disney has been scary good at making.

Now I'm wondering if the other freed widows are going to appear in films. One of them, Helen, was in Shang Chi.
I'm assuming she was the black one. Just kidding, they're all black.

After Shit-Chi magically made bank I'm never betting against Marvel again. I fully expect The Eternals to set some kind of box office record and be 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Outside F&F whatever number they are up to, Godzilla vs Kong and some Chinese movies, none of the biggest hits of the year has got past the $400 million marks.

Black Widow just missed out on it, Free Guy looks like it will also just miss it. Shang Chi has a few more weeks left before it hits Disney plus, so could hit it, but both James Bond and Venom are out soon, giving it some competition it has lack until now.

Think Bond and Spiderman will be the true tests of what the max box office will be for some time. Do wonder if those two don't do above $600million, or something very high, will the upcoming blockbusters have big changes to their budgets.

Would like to see what happens to Marvel movies if their budgets were cut to something like $100million rather than the $200 million most cost

I sure hope the Coof kills the era of shitty big-budget blockbusters. Some of the best art is borne of being forced to work around budgetary limitations. Not every movie needs a multiple-hundred-million-dollar budget, and having limited money to work with can force you to actually tell interesting stories in order to captivate the audience, instead of frying their receptors with Hollywood CGI Spectacle No. 3728192983.

As much as I would love to see modern capeshit revert back to the '80s and '90s way of doing things, I doubt Hollywood has the desire or even talent to do that. Judging by Black Widow's awful CG they'll keep making movies the way they've been doing, only cheaper and faster, before slapping the results on their streaming service of choice, where consoomers will eagerly lap it up.

You know you have a point, also for fun budgets of blockbusters of the past adjusted for inflation
Jaws $45,763,996.28
Star Wars $49,657,376.24
Back to the Future $48,306,440.52
Ghostbusters $78,989,509.14
Raiders of the Lost Ark $60,190,759.08
The Towering Inferno $77,686,369.17

Not sure if you could ever go back to that budget for the blockbusters, but it for sure could lower it and lead to a better movie overall. Hell using CGI more wisely, and stop giving actors massive paychecks when they don't bring that value to the movie in terms of tickets sold, could cut the budget by least 1/4 if not more for some movies.
