The opposite of love isn't hate, it's apathy.
I’m not seeing a lot of apathy in this thread or any discussion for the developers or its games. If it were apathy, nobody would be talking about it.

You said it yourself, we wouldn’t hear these people voicing their opinion.

When people are calling Bungie out for stupid ideas and getting mad about it, they just want the game they love to be in a better place than it is.
Fair, but again, people by and large cheering on the death of the company… which makes the begging and bargaining for a D3 absolutely strange.

What the response to the end of development shows is that there are still a lot of people who care about the Destiny universe and truly want more of it.
This is the part where I think you’re all trapped like rats. People hate the company, they hate the game, and yet they mourn what was and what could have been.

They had a decade to make a game you would want to play and they’ve released a whole new game since then and it’s not living up to community expectations.

It reminds me of battered spouses.

You know they are just going to hit you, but you keep coming back hoping things will be different this time.

Marathon flopping won’t usher in an era of games people such as yourself want to play. There is no course correction for this.

Bungie dying definitely won’t be fruitful in that regard either.

And yeah, it's obvious that Bungie in its current state probably couldn't deliver an adequate follow-up, especially not with Sony shooting down any attempt to (and I don't blame them with how much money they've burned). But that doesn't stop people from wanting.
It’s just time to move on and hope some one else can make something that’s a worthwhile distraction.

Maybe there will be a Destiny remake or something in 10 or 20 years. System shock got one.

As one of those longtime Destiny fans, I can't speak for everyone, but the reason I don't want it to end is because I still care. The opposite of love isn't hate, it's apathy. When people are calling Bungie out for stupid ideas and getting mad about it, they just want the game they love to be in a better place than it is. It's when you stop hearing those voices altogether that you know something bad is happening. That means people have given up entirely.
Dude, I have nothing against you. You seem like a nice person. But these platitudes are moronic. For 8 years Destiny and Destiny 2 were my favorite games. I played them more than any other game in my life, and I've been playing videogames since 1989. I met some great players by accident and had fantastic times raiding, truly a unique experience in all my years playing games. Because of Destiny, I've built up a backlog of games I haven't played because I was so busy with D1 and D2, and now I don't think I'll ever be able to play every one of them because, you know, life.

My love for Destiny came from the way it played and from the original lore. I have the first 3 or 4 Grimoire books. Bungie gradually fucked up the lore in such a way that, by the time we reached WQ, I came to openly despise the game and the universe and quit. Not even the mechanical enjoyment of playing could minimize the absolutely rancid taste left by everything else they did. The lore became unsalvageable long before WQ, filled with gay shit and nonsense that completely obliterated what was and could've been. There's no coming back from this, even if Bungie reversed course. It's ruined forever. And I'm frankly astounded how so many people agree with this, but are simply unable to let go, like you.

I'm not apathetic to the game and to Bungie. I hate them both, for what it became and for what they've done. I want them both dead and buried.

Alright people, we got a bit over 12 hours until the free week nine day period ends, what’s everyone feeling for the Thursday post-FP charts?

Will they:
:lunacy:) Stay firmly above the pre-FP numbers. (let’s say 13k peak or more)
:optimistic:) Be about the same. (anywhere from 12,999 to 10k peak)
:like:) Be worse than before. (9,999 to 8k peak)
:winner:) Outright disaster (7999 or less)
Remember, Thursday tends to do well for a weekday, but it only comes close to the weekend tally if it’s actively still declining.

My money is that it would have been about the same, but Destiny 2’s final update will have it firmly in the four digits. Would still be shocked if it was south of 8k.

Is cryo archive still a thing? If they open that back up it will be 'fine' but I would be interested to see if they have made any silent changes or updates to it. I feel like they would have been slyly dropping hints about all the things they changed if so though.

Not even a miracle dlc can save this, people came, conquered, and went away, nothing wrong with a 50-100 hour game, customerside that is.

The sentinel class was designed and most of the weapon nerfs were designed to unfuck that map.

It really is an amazing map, it's jut the pvp game play is so dive centric that it doesn't play like it really should.

I like the map conceptually but unless you are running a team that knows the minimum the experience is going to be very cut very shortly, season 1 was grenade spam on fuck rooms, that was the whole gameplay, and for season 2? I guess every team has to have a Sentinnel now, effectively making the Destroyer useless, also the map has been retired temporarily because there's a FUBAR involving players not being able to be resurrected, for a 3 billion dollar company that were the creators of halo and weavers of dreams they are thoroughly retarded when it comes to anything involving server. Marathon has been the perfect example on why you fucking have UAT-DEV-QA and as many environments as you can have before you actually defecate the game into production, I just can't fathom shit like " the server shits the bed completely for 80% of the users code anteater" ,"sponsored kits have been temporarily disabled because they cannot possibly get equipped" and the more recent "yea you just can't do basic functionality on cryo archive, don't ask QA, it was working on the dev build that was provided to them" happening because, supposedly, the stakes were so high that they were spacebound and they have like what, 15 years experience with the Destiny franchise being basically the same game with more stuff in it.

Cryo is a nice map for PVE to be honest, you can immerse yourself in the compiler stuff for the first season, talk on comms with your buddies about the security clearance and the interactions around it, then remember there is absolutely nothing new and forget it completely, but I don't see the appeal in long af corridors with the eventual rectangle fuck room, something tells me it should feel like those tiny maps in UT and Quake 1 and 2 but it doesn't click, also the reward for being the best PVP'er is more fucking sponsored kits for next season, at least Starcraft 2 had championships and prize pools and ways to make you feel competitive, but I'm comparing a more bonified e-sport to the skeleton of the concept of an e-sport.

I agree with what you’re saying, but I’d personally rather a match end in 2 minutes than drag on for 15. I don’t like becoming someone one else’s loot piñata, I don’t like spending my time getting nice and juicy for someone.

This is a problem for me with that 5k buy in, you’re always a loot piñata to some degree,

I think most of s2 is fresh faces or people who didn’t get to go hard in s1. They are gonna love cryo for which you describe.

Destroyer isn’t unless on that map, it just can’t immediately dive on top of a team, drop a bubble shields, and proceed to 3v1 with a Mizzy.

There are all these little nooks and crannies, alternate path ways, and this labyrinth type design to the map that could allow for flanks and retreats and ways of sneaking up on other teams… none of it matters because 3 different classes have effective wall hacks and the ones that don’t can descend upon you in a few seconds, positioning doesn’t matter when the enemy always knows where you are and they can make their own perfect cover at any time anywhere with a bubble grenade.

I have a lot of time in MMOs, major patches completely breaking the game are the norm.

No one ever gives credit to bungie for how fast they are to correct things. I encourage people to experience Blizzards ability to patch and balance, a company that will make you wait literal years, if not a decade or more, before they even consider making a change based on community feedback back. Go play WoW, you’ll love the fucking alacrity of Blizzard.

lol well said.

I think the big rectangle fuck room was supposed to be where the PvP happens, but they gave us the ability to walk into spawns and fight in spaces that really aren’t appropriate for a 3v3 encounter. That’s the absolute biggest problem of the map, spawn invasions.

I think they just need to reward top end players with more skins and visual cosmetics. Something to identify these people as stand outs.

Right now it’s pretty bad. You killed compiler so you get a black and blue amor with a tube. Oh you ranked to gold? How about a nice blue and white destroyer skin?

Lame.

I fully expect season 3 to be even worse. Just like destiny 2 every new content update will increasingly break the game and introduce more bugs.
I didn't play Destiny 2 before Shadowkeep, but was it that buggy during early days? Game breaking at 25th season in 10 year old franchise feels more natural than Marathon being buggy in second season after many years of the development.

I made a big post about former CM Ruppert in the Destiny 2 thread but here she is saying that Marathon is performing “within expected parameters”

It’s obviously an attempt to court bungie again after being laid off (which has been her MO for a bit)

Her prominence within the company coincided with the rise of the “X at Bungie” and she was laid off when it slowed down. Take that as you will.

Season 3 is going to brick people's consoles, calling it now.

I played at launch on PC and had no issues, same when I came back in 2021 but that was on Xbox and I have no idea what version I was playing.
