I remember this now, I used to play it quite a bit when I had a squad in D2. I thought it was a fun mode, even though I instantly got dusted every time I invaded the other team.
Most people did. I remember launch Gambit was all rockets or linear fusions. They would blast your ass before you could even sneak up on the team. Gambit has always been fun, just a little stale because they’re not as much dynamism as a traditional PVP mode, because when you invade it’s a 1v4, either you smoke the team because they suck or you get your shit rocked and run back to help your team.

So their plan was to take this mode that nobody played out of a free game and stick it into a $40 one with nothing else to do, slap an ancient IP on the front and it would sell 12 million copies?
that's how the pitch sales was, yes.
and sony was incredibly retarded to fall for that as they were chasing the lightning with their bottles in hopes to catch one.

pvp always has the nolifers that memorize a lot of shit, including the invader spawns in gambit.
still it was a pvpve? nope, if you had a good invader that knew when to strike the other team would lose, in short: solos always get pounded by premades, it's the entire trial of osiris/competitive shit too but osiris is even worse with people doing ddos and shit.
worse of all was the shit payout, especially for losing teams.

I realized that when I tried the regular PVP and got wiped out even when I got the drop and emptied entire clips into the opponent. For the sake of my controller I went back to doing PVE events.

Is D2 considered a twitch-shooter like CoD? I think that style of PVP is simply not for me; I long for the circle strafing of Quake and Unreal Tournament, or the weirdo modes Timesplitters 2 had.

Weapons are so nuked in the crucible and the balancing is so bad that you can really only use what’s meta. And don’t even try using abilities you think are cool, even my titans bonk hammer does literally no damage.

I had heard that outpost had all the loot stripped from it and it was basically like running perimeter, the noob map.

Outpost in S1 was a map where you brought your best gear out to play, the risk to reward ratio was definitely worth it. You would also not run this map with out a team or you'd run it solo, pugs meant you were wasting your time and would get murdered.

I loaded in with a free kit, in trios with fills. We wiped the lobby of grey and blue kits. We looted the map and did the PvE, did the locked rooms, we did everything. I left perimeter with 15k in loot. Most of that loot came from the players we killed.

To put this into perspective, a store bought blue kit costs 12.5k.

9+ players took the time to strap on a kit, sit in a queue, fight, and be killed, all for the chance at an affordable budget load out.

Looking like there is no way to actually obtain the fun gear with out turning this game into a full time job. The only place you'd want to use that gear is Cryo, where you will lose it to a sweatier person. No other map has value. Maybe Night Diremarsh is still decent, i doubt it.
