If you have a Walgreens near you that's the best place to go to try the product out. They carry a wide variety and if you get there during the sales time, they're sometimes buy one get one half off. The one where I live is currently doing that. Vanilla Bean and the Coconut Milk (uh...m.i.l.k. lol) one smells delicious tbh. I swear by the Vanilla one. It makes your hair smell like warm vanilla. Also most of the scents are perfect for summer time.

When you say "set", exactly what product is that? I've seen setting spray, but I thought you put that on after your makeup.

I see you mentioned powder, is it called setting powder? I've never seen anything by that name but I don't look at the face makeup products.

Yeah. Setting powder, face powder, compact powder... Even eyeshadow might do the trick. Just something to sort of mattify the skin. It kinda works the same way like talc or baby powder would as in keeps the skin somewhat dry.

I guess people talk about "setting" as a way to make stuff not budge of your skin and in the end the purpose is the same with powders; like if you use liquid foundation it might move around ("creasing") if you don't set it with powder on top.

Setting sprays... I think people use those on top of having like a lot of dry compounds on top of other dry compounds in their makeup (powder contour and setting powders) or a lot of mica or glitter in eye looks that could come off during the wear time. In art terms it's like spraying fixative on your finished dry pastel work.

Totally with you on the tattoo liner. Any recommendations for alternatives? It's only a matter of time before they're contaminated with polio. The biggest thing for me is how well it holds up to my disgusting crisco soaked eyelids. KvD's liner is the only one I've tried that doesn't rub off because of my oily ass skin.

I hear you on the Kat Von D dilemma. A few months ago, I tried out her "Tattoo Liquid Eyeliner" for the first time and it changed my life because it's an idiot-proof eyeliner for someone like me, who usually has a really hard time doing winged liner. I have also been a huge fan of her eyeshadow palettes and her perfume line. In light of her current controversy, I can't repurchase her stuff in good conscience. It's a bummer that she's such an idiotic and shitty person, because her beauty products are overall fantastic.

I wish I could help you with the contour palette, but I'm one of those ridiculously pale people who doesn't contour due to a fear of the products looking like mud or dirt on me.

I like eyekos pens much better than the kvd tattoo pen. Both the skinny and fat pens are good. I've tried a small fortune in black liners.
For one that doesn't smudge off you may want nyx matte liquid liner. I don't remember if the eyeko ones smudged tbh.


For contouring I have an Anastasia palette but I feel like it's bolder so I don't use it very much. Every day I use too faced cocoa contour. I'm really pale and the medium brown shade, if you use just a little bit, works without being very obvious at all! It has no orange tones so it's perfect for cool toned skin.
The light and shimmery shades are nice as well. The darkest shade is orangey, I don't use very much.

I have to admit, I am really a makeup brand snob. I did not buy any drugstore makeup for years. Only recently did I buy a couple of nyx products.
I just never felt it looked nearly as good or lasted nearly as long. And you can't try it on.. so I stopped buying it. But lately some of the cute packaging and pretty colors are tempting. Some people say it's gotten better?

Recently I've been doing really light makeup. I had microblading done on my eyebrows and I really love how it turned out. I also got a lash lift and tint... Tbh I probably won't do that again because I feel like the lashes are too curly and mascara doesn't apply as well.

Yeah, when it comes to makeup, I typically go for "higher end" brands, except when it comes to mascara (Lash Paradise from L'Oreal is my current fave) and my beloved Revlon Colorstay foundation. I branched out towards a Makeup Forever HD foundation once, and thought it performed horribly on my skin. All I need is my Revlon and my Beauty Blender, haha.

When it comes to eyeshadow, eyeliner, and blush, though ... I just can't buy drugstore brands. The difference in quality is night and day for me, personally. I remember buying my first "high end" eyeshadow palette from Sephora almost 10 years ago, and I've never looked back.

I used to just go for drugstore finishing powder as well ... Then I bought a Besame loose translucent powder about a month ago and it makes my skin GLOW. I was amazed at how great it makes my complexion look. I'm never going back to drugstore powders at this point if this is how all high end powders perform.

I typically don't feel bad splurging a little bit on higher end makeup though. I don't wear a full face of makeup a lot of the time (only when I'm at a special occasion or if I'm "going out" for the evening-- which I find is happening less and less as I get older, haha), so I don't find myself spending a ton of money needing to refill my makeup on a regular basis.

High end makeup hasn't always worked out for me, honestly. I once bought some expensive crayon lip liner stuff and the shit broke. :/

The Walgreen's one is only 4 dollars but it has a street vanilla creamy scent and it lasts a long time after it's applied. The Dove lotion is coconut oil and almond mi.lk and the scent is also creamy. I love the Walgreen's one so much that I bought two of them.

I am admittedly a hoarder of things that smell pretty. From perfume to Bath & Body Works lotions and candles, I must have ALL the things!

Right now, though, I am obsessed with a 2-in-1 shower wash/shave cream by Olay and Venus in the "vanilla creme" scent. Not only does it work great as a shave cream, but the particular scent smells delicious. It's super moisturizing, too. I've been putting on Estee Lauder's Bronze Goddess (a coconut-based perfume) after I take a shower pretty much every day. It's a fantastic scent combo.

So much of my money has gone to Bath And Body Works in the past. I'd buy more from them but the price adds up.
I miss this fragrance from B & B Works.

They sold it one time during the Fall and haven't sold it since, the fuckers. It smelled more like pistachio than pear. It was such a yummy scent.

I'm not so into the Summer scents so far. Except the beach ones. Which are delightful. Bath And Body Work's Paris Coffee candle is their best one by far.

I just found a new brand of smell-good stuff: Tree Hut. I bought a sugar scrub for my pedicures at Walgreens in Coconut Lime and it smells so fucking amazing. I ordered lotion and body butter from Amazon in the same scent. It is perfect for summer and it complements the illume Coconut Lavender perfume I found at Marshalls for my summer scent.

Tree Hut reminds me of Bath and Body Works without the sweet, chemical afternotes I get with BBW scents. It smells cleaner/more natural. And the body butter is really rich and thick.

So far, the only makeup I'm willing to go high end for is lipstick. Though it's mainly because all the local drugstore-grade lipsticks in South East Asia have at least one trait I dislike:
1) Too sheer!
2) Not in the classic creamy tube form.
3) Smells off, like body perfume to wear instead of something I'd eat.
4) If it is full-coverage, the texture tends to be too cakey.

The only local lipstick brand I've tried that actually doesn't have those bad traits seems to be Elianto in my experience.

My wedding dress for November. It's going to be a morning wedding hence the tea-length.
It's actually a lolita dress, so I want a Victorian hairstyle, but I'm not sure what that would entitle exactly so I need suggestions. It definitely needs to be an up-do because the dress is a bit top heavy so my neck needs to be visible.
I felt a bit guilty spending 800 bucks on a single dress, but hey some people spend thousands on a wedding dress so I guess comparatively it's not horrible. I also need to find tights, I was thinking lace(??)

Pretty much all the Bath & Body Works products I use are "retired" scents. None of their new stuff impresses me these days. My "go tos" have been Wild Honeysuckle and Cherry Blossom for 10+ years at this point. I also love Plumeria, Juniper Breeze, and White Tea & Ginger. I almost never actually shop at a Bath & Body Works store in person anymore because they only carry the stuff I like online.

Here are some scents I love that they released, like, once or twice just to never come back:
-The "Summer Vanillas," especially the Lemon Vanilla (smelled like lemon pound cake; got a ridiculous amount of compliments every time I wore it)
-Forever Midnight (a more "orchid"-y version of Forever Red, and I thought it was infinitely better than Forever Red-- the one they kept around for 5 years or so of course, haha)
-Pink Sugarplum (such a happy, fruity scent for Christmas; got complimented on it all of the time)

@Ozul Your wedding dress is so pretty! It's definitely fitting for your theme; it's perfect! And, honestly, while $800 is expensive, you're way under budget compared to most brides these days. When I got married, I completely lucked out and got my dress off the rack with a sale already attached to it and got it for almost $1000 even (and that's actually cheap for a bridal gown based on stories I've heard!). Also, if you love the dress, then you love the dress! It's your wedding day; it's vital to make sure you love what you have chosen to wear.

I love the dress @Ozul. It reminds me of the Edwardian times. @StarkRavingMad I love the Pink Sugarplum lotion. Their Winter holiday scents are my favorite. But some of the Fall ones are great as well because I love the spicy and bakery scents. Iced Coconut Coolada is a retired scent. It smelled so delicious and I used to apply it every day.

My H&M houndstooth ankle length pants arrived today. The material is thick which will make it a little weird to wear in the Summer but they're comfortable and they look good. If I had some Oxford shoes or saddle shoes they'd compliment this more.

@Ozul How long is your hair? For a historically accurate Victorian style I'd suggest tying it in an updo. But if you don't mind a little deviation from the time period I'd personally suggest a pair of victory rolls and leave the rest loose.

I'm not sure what your face looks like so I'm just tossing ideas here.

I think Lolita dresses are fantastic wedding dresses and you could always wear it to fancy tea parties and events later and make people jealous, lol. If not it's still a beautiful piece. I can't get excited over normie wedding dresses most of the time.

It is Baby! Yeah that was an idea, because with a normal wedding dress you can only wear it once but with a lolita dress it's multi-functional. It's actually my first baby dress, being an AP whore, I have to say that the amount of details are amazing.

800 is fine, especially since it is BTSSB. plus you can also wear it after your wedding for fancy meet-ups/tea parties if you want!

I think they may bring Iced Coconut Coolada back, I bought hand soap a few days ago and got a bottle with that scent. They may bring back the lotion if they still sell the soap.

I have greasy, yet dry skin that looks like I spread baby oil all over it if I forget to put on a translucent powder. My eyelids are particularly greasy. This liner has been amazing. I've used it for years and it lasts forever. Highly recommend. Edit: It does smudge if you smear it, but I like that because it makes it easier to fix the wing. It doesn't smudge if you don't get it wet or if you don't touch it with your hands. It says nicely on the eyelid.

So I also have thin, fine hair that I like to iron. I recommend the Coconut Miilk one over Vanilla Bean, because the Vanilla Bean made my hair really greasy and heavy. But that's just me!
