anyone have any experience using straight aloe gel on their skin? Like, squeezed directly from the plant. I've seen good things on instagram but i've also seen the same accounts swear by a mixture of charcoal and literal glue as a face mask.

I used to do this ~10 years ago before my grandmother's aloe plant died. I can't say that it did much for my acne (then again, as a teenager I had a pretty severe case), but it was definitely soothing to my skin (if slimy!). We used to use it much more frequently for mild burns/cuts/sunburn, though.

I do that when I have a really severe sunburn (or any kind of burn, really). When it comes to pain relief, it doesn't do much, but it's super soothing and stops the itching. I like to keep bits of aloe in the fridge so it feels even better on burns.

Medium skin, dark hair for me. I like tarte's Texas Toast for a nude, matte, liquid lipstick, YLBB. It's got a touch of greige that sounds horrible but looks nice. Yes, it's Graveyard Girl's product but it's actually nice, covers well, not streaky and stays on for hours. They are getting scarce. I'm not a huge fan of Tarte but loved the color and bought three more. (I know it'll be discontinued).

And Chanel makes some great long-lasting liquid lip colors that stay on through eating and drinking, I imagine you could find a color that works with your skin tone.

My friend swears by LipSense by SeneGence. I've never heard of it or tried it but she says it lasts through kissing and they have a purple. I'm a sucker for purple lippies.

I haven't tried any Korean products so that will be my next makeup foray. Looking for ideas. I do wear a BB cream by Cailyn and love it, so probably won't switch unless something is much better. I know they are big into skin care.

Did anybody get Beautylish's Lucky Bag 2017? They'll be shipped the 6th and I'm looking forward to it-past years I've gotten great products for the most part.

Not really a recommendation but a question since I'm hunting a good bb cream myself- have you tried the Holika Holika petit jelly? I was gonna order some after my paycheck cleared but haven't really gotten to talk to anyone about it.
Yes! It's not the right choice if you want the "dewy" look offered by many Korean BB and CC creams, and it will cake and cling to any patches of dry skin if you don't layer it over a serum and/or moisturizer. It blends really well, but isn't terribly buildable - more of a "your-skin-but-better" than a "flawless finish" sort of thing. It does have a bit of a scent, and you can feel that you're wearing something, so maybe take a pass if your skin is especially sensitive.

That said, it's one of my favorite products, with a long-lasting matte finish that looks natural yet polished both in person and in photographs. A little goes a long way, so it is an especially good value at its price point.

@Durable Mike Malloy
I use a lot of lush celestial moisturizer and use peripera m.i.l.k blur cc over... I'm not sure what to call it, a weird rosacea sort of lesser acne patch? (Not an actual rash) on one cheek so it sounds about perfect since what I was looking for is a 'regular skin but better' sort of thing. Thanks! A lot of reviews feel like weeb shilling so it's hard to trust them.

EDIT: BOY THAT'S A FUN PLACE FOR A TEXT REPLACEMENT

Best foundation, bb cream, etc for really pale people with dry skin? I was using the tonymoly pikachu cushion but it's too dark and too dry. I have some missha #13 on the way though.

If you're going the asian beauty route, try a lightening CC cream like Touch in Sol or Japanese Brand Kose Sekkisei BB if you want porcelain yet hydrated skin.
Too cool for school's dinoplatz la ola is really nice and light and has balm and serum in it, so it combats dryness. Plus, the packaging is cute.
Missha #13 is nice and light though.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good eye makeup remover?
The cheap drugstore stuff I use at the minute stinks and it really just smudges everything around so I end up using 2 or 3 times more remover than I really should to actually just get it all gone.
This is even when I choose not use primer or anything around my eyes to help stuff stay put.

I have medium skin and combination skin, if this helps anyone. I've tried a lot of BB creams over the years.

Personally, I love using Laneige's BB cushion - great coverage, and it feels light. Perfect for people who want dewey looking skin. I think this would suit someone with dry skin well. They no longer sell this at Sephora but they do sell it at Target in the US. :( I have to import mine because I don't live in the US. It is on the pricier side.

Your best bet for pale shades is actually Korean brands. Although if you're super white, like porcelain white, I don't know of many. If you're not that pale, other brands for dry skin in a range of paler shades include the Missha BB Cream (one of my personal favourites too when not using the cushion), Skin79, and Holika Holika.

I like micellar water, choose the waterproof stuff. I also LOVE the makeup eraser they sell at Sephora. They have the expensive one ($25 CAD) and there's the store-brand Sephora ones, 2 for $15 I think. You just need to put hot water on the cloths and wipe. They're reusable too, so no need to continually spend on crappy disposable wipes. I wear that super strong Marc Jacobs liquid liner that does not come off and it comes off easily with these cloths.

Seconding this. I actually don't even need to buy makeup remover, because the makeup erasers remove all of my makeup with just some warm water. (Obviously I wash my face with cleanser right after, though.)

My usual makeup remover is the NYX Be Gone makeup wipe. If I have something stubborn I have the Sonia Kashuk (found at Target) makeup remove that I'll splash onto cotton or the wipe to get the rest off. When I travel or I have some serious makeup going on I'll use coconut oil. I put some into a clean jar that used to hold Benefit Erase Paste so it's just about the right size. Coconut oil works the best but is definitely messier by the end. When I used to use the NYX Pin Up Tease mascara it was the only thing that could remove it gently. Gets the liquid eyeliner off nice and clean too.

@PropaGONDA I'm getting more and more curious about those makeup erasers. Would you recommend the name brand over the Sephora brand? It sounds like it does a good job if it gets that MJ liner off.

@Blake Bumbleby that sounds magical. The makeup remover I use doesn't cause me any irrtation but I'd love to stop throwing out so many wipes and remembering to restock them. *sigh*

Ordered my first beauty box! Pretty excited. And going to buy some supplies tomorrow.

I already do my nails to some degree, but I am interested in makeup, mostly to look more alive (and bonus creepy larp makeup).

I think there's only a marginal difference between the name brand makeup eraser and the Sephora brand in terms of performance. I do find that I need to swipe more than once with the Sephora brand depending on the eyeliner or mascara I use that day. The Sephora fabric seems to be more hydrophobic than the name brand one, so you need to run it under water more for it to absorb water.

I'd say get the Sephora brand. It's cheaper and you get two for the price of one. I've gifted some to my family and friends and I wouldn't gift people stuff I wouldn't personally use. Hope this helps!

Does anyone have any primer recommendations? I got a sample of the Illamasqua hydra veil (thanks counter lady) with my bottle of Skin Base but it actually makes the foundation cake on top of it. It's the only colour that matches me (without having to mix anything with it) so I really wanna work with it, plus it's a little pricier so I'd rather not have to try out other foundations again.

I am obsessed with Benefit's Pore-fessional primer; it's super smooth and makes your skin look flawless. A little bit goes a long way so a bottle lasts me ages.

I have the ulta-brand makeup eraser cloths. I think mine were like two for $10-12 ish (i bought them a while ago so I can't remember off the top of my head). But I actually prefer the ulta brand to the original Makeup Eraser brand cloths. The ulta ones I have are dark grey, so they don't look as gross as quickly as the Makeup Eraser ones (which are pink and look disgusting after one use)

I use theBalm's Balms Away eye makeup remover and I like it a lot. It comes in a tin and it's basically a salve, and nothing else I've ever used has broken my makeup down so thoroughly. It retails for $20 but it's not too bad considering how much use you'll get out of it; I'm heavy-handed with product and I've maybe used up 25% of the tin in three months.

For a long time, I just used coconut oil, which worked well too. You just have to warm it up in your hands so it spreads.
