Rate me late but whatever.

They are a meme. Certain Chanel bags are called investments because Chanel constantly jacks up their prices so after a few years you can sell it for less than the current retail price while making your money back and possibly a small profit. To pull this off you need to keep the bag in pristine condition and hang on to all the bits and pieces that came with it, which means you'll probably barely be able to use it. Chanel are also introducing quotas and the prices are already absurdly high so if you didn't get one a couple of years ago it's probably too late. It's true that you can flip Birkins and Kellys for double what you paid as soon as you walk out of the shop, but the money you need to sink into Hermes to be offered one in the first place is going to offset any potential gains. It's also possible to scalp seasonal bags that are in high demand but you need a good eye for trends. We're in a bubble of luxury consoomerism at the moment that's being driven by new-money influencers and soundcloud rappers or whatever stupid people get famous for these days. Decadence and flashy logos are in right now, Chanel and particularly Hermes are sought after because they're exclusive status symbols. The pendulum will swing back and these things will be seen as uncouth within the next 10-15 years, quality items will retain some amount of value but they won't be as sought after. Designer stuff won't go away, it's survived changing trends before, but it's hard to predict what there will be a market for in the future.

If you get a bag that's good quality and works for you it can last your whole life if you look after it, and in that sense they can be "investments" because you can save money over the course of decades by not constantly replacing cheaper bags as they wear out. That's what luxury and designer used to mean, one per lifetime/heirloom purchases. Don't buy one you don't love because you think you can literally make money off it.
And in my opinion, don't buy anything too trendy. The bags that seem to hold the most value are the classic Kellys and Birkins, along with the Chanel 2.55 and the Fendi Baguette.
That's just me, though. If I'm going to spend that much on a handbag, I want to be sure it goes with everything in my closet.

@Hoi Polloi thanks for all the info. I do genuinely like the Chanel 2.55 bag and have for a long time, but I've also had other bags I liked and grown tired of in the same amount of time. Maybe the trend will eventually change. I used to really like those Chanel cambon bags with the logo on the side that were so popular in the late 00s and now consider them cleugy so who knows.

Fwiw I've sold plenty of clothing and accessories I've bought for more money (even after wearing) and am sort of an opportunistic flipper. I usually buy things I wouldn't mind being stuck with though it it doesn't work out.

If you like it anyway go ahead, if you decide it isn't for you in the future you can usually make something back but don't bank on being able to turn a profit. The normal black with silver or gold hardware is likely to be the easiest to resell in the future but in the current market seasonal colours are much easier to flip for more than what you paid.

The reason I said it might be too late to get in on flipping classic Chanels now is because the initial prices are already so high, they had I think four increases this year and some are similar to Birkin/Kelly prices now, and there have been increasing quality control issues in the past few years so a lot of more discerning people are deciding they're not worth buying anymore. If you decide to get one make sure the flaps and stuff are all sewn on straight, not that that's something you should need to do with a bag that costs so much. There are still people who'll pay over the odds for a Chanel bag anyway just to flash it around, but I feel like this conspicuous consumption and normalisation of normal people with designer brands is a bubble we're in at the moment. I think it's linked to the resurgence of Y2K fashion, back then logos and layering were trendy and I see shades of that in streetstyle that's fashionable now. It went out of style and it'll go out again.

Any recommendations for a nice matte foundation? I am kind of cheap and buy my stuff normally at Walmart/Kroger’s but I want something better. I liked the cover girl mousse foundation texture, so something like that but better quality would be awesome :)

I really liked the Dermablend pigment drops back when I wore daily full face.

I like the Estee Lauder Double Wear.

It's not a mousse texture, and is on the pricey side, but it's one of the best foundations out today.

Since it's almost Xmas, let me sperg about fragrances.
The boyfriend to my sister did wear One Million last year, the one everybody knows about. I like it, but it smells of pure sex. That's so fucking inappropriate when eating at grandmas place, with the whole family.

I'm planning to wear Burberry London. It smells like a Xmas tree :)

Have you tried any of the Comme des Garçons fragrances? I quite like them myself.

Do you guys have a go-to winter fragrance? I’m looking to switch things up and not wear something predominantly vanilla/coffee scented this year so any recs would be appreciated.
Just started to care about fragrances a few weeks ago, so can't really help. But the fragrances subreddit and fragrance fanatics on jewtube is a good place to start.
Fragrantica.com to check up notes and keeping track of them.

Thanks! Never thought to check Reddit or YouTube for reviews. I’ve been obsessed with reading Fragrantica reviews lately but the one bad review among fifty good ones always makes me second guess a decision. I guess I could give a couple different ones a try.

You need to take reviews on Fragrantica with a grain of salt, because even though more mainstream fragrances can smell good. The fragrance connoisseurs will still hate it and prefer something that cost 300 usd and smells less good.

It's a funky one but Patchouli 24 by Le Labo is one of my all-time favorites for fall/winter. It's smoky and earthy, and there's a note that reminds me of my favorite smoky scotches. It's more masculine than most of Le Labo's scents but there's some warm sweetness to balance it out, I think either gender could wear it if it fits them. Definitely a try-before-you-buy though.

For a more cozy scent, I've been digging By the Fireplace by Maison Margiela lately. It's also smoky as the name suggests, but soft and clean at the same time.

Thank you for the recs! I'll remember to keep an eye out for those for when I hit nordstrom

Those both sound nice, I like earthy, smoky perfumes.

May want to look into oud then, as it's described as funky by many, it's generally a very unisex note too. Especially if you look into the more "authentic" ones from the middle east. Western ouds are generally not that much oud in it.
