Any suggestions for dry, peeling scalp? It's dermatitis rather than dandruff so the antifungal shampoos don't do anything except make it redder and sorer. I use pretty gentle shampoo/conditioner stuff so as not to antagonise it, but I am interested in maybe a balm/lotion I could use if anyone has any suggestions?
I've got eczema and my scalp has started to flake really badly, so I switched to a scalp care shampoo. It's not a perfect system, since I have to use a mask in lieu of conditioner (I have thick, coarse, very over-processed hair), but it's helped a lot. Currently I'm using the Malibu Scalp Wellness shampoo but I'm gonna switch back to the Surface Awaken shampoo, which contains loads of peppermint oil.
If you can, use something with peppermint, rosemary, or tea tree. It's astringent and anti-inflammatory. Just make sure you aren't allergic. Also, if you take really hot showers, don't. That'll make the dryness even worse.
Have you tried a cleansing conditioner/co-wash? Alternating that with your regular shampoo and conditioner might help, too.
does anyone have any cleaning recommendations for someone with oily skin and large pores? acne is hardly a problem, so at least there's that. also, are facial scrubs by brands like burt's bees acceptable? i've seen it in my grocery store and it looks tempting, but my finger isn't on the pulse of the beauty market by any means, so if it's a no-no, i wouldn't know.
Get yourself a cleansing oil. I actually like the Burt's Bees one (I got a travel size at Target just to try it out) and it's a decent dollar-per-ounce value. I've never tried the scrubs, though. I don't scrub since I use a couple of different products with glycolic acid in them.
Oil cleansing is great because since oil attracts oil, it gets all the grease off your face without stripping your skin too much. And I know it's tempting to use the heavy-duty stuff but personally I've had much better results using gentle products that don't make my face feel "squeaky-clean".
