Live Action Teen Titans - Fuck Batman

I've never seen the show, but I'm curious if Jericho (my favorite Teen Titan) appeared in it yet.
According to this….
…he’s currently dead with his mind trapped inside Slade.

He's a trans man in the show. I wish I was joking.

I never actually realized that. I thought he was just a very weird looking guy. I could tell something was wrong with him but I didn't work out what. I guess it goes back to what that CIA director said: you can make a woman look like a man but it's near impossible to make a man look like a woman. Looking up the actor's bio, I think she's been on male hormones and other drugs from an early age.

I mean, they also do everything else in terms of hair, clothing, etc. to make her look male.

I must have missed that aspect, unless you're talking about his consciousness hopping bodies.

I don't think the character was meant to be trans. I think it's just that the actor is.

Vaguely related - Doom Patrol is back. I don't think it will ever reach the heights of S1 but it's still infinitely better than the Titans show.

Maaaan, that doesn't even look like Jericho. I'm fine with them getting rid of the mutton chops (never really liked them), but could they have at least tried?

Okay, fucking rant incoming. This show has plot holes Killer Croc could rope-skip through.

So in advance: I accept there are genre conventions, that a person can study martial arts so hard that they can fight ten people at once or that a small domino mask can protect your identity so that the viewer can see the main character's expressions and not just be sat watching a bunch of actors trying to emote without any use of facial expression. I can suspend my disbelief for the sake of fun. I also accept there are plot contrivances because people don't watch shows like this so they can see three weeks of people sitting around saying: "Well, we don't have any leads. Another game of Monopoly?"

But this show crashes through my forebearance at lightspeed yelling: "FUCK CONSISTENCY AND THE LOGIC IT RODE IN ON!"

Alright, I can't be bothered individually spoilering everything for such nonsense. Open the below if you've already seen it or just don't care.

There's no good place to start with such a trashfire so lets just pick on Dick living up to his name and poisoning not only Superboy but Superboy's dog Krypto. Yes - Dick poisons the fucking super-dog. With Kryptonite dust. Why? Surely there's a good reason? NO! It's because Superboy correctly points out that he, being faster, stronger and invulnerable has a better chance against Red Hood (whose main power is... guns) than Dick does. When he refuses to stay home (no sensible reason at all other than Dick has to do this alone), Dick fucking poisons them both. Dick then goes on to meet Red Hood who shoots at him and then Dick ultimately loses and Red Hood gets away.

I mean, transparently the writers had to come up with some reason why Superboy who could beat Red Hood instantly, can't be involved. But... it's literally just Dick poisoning his friend for no reason.

Scarecrow has now moved into Wayne Manor. How? Why? Apparently he just can now because the Titans are on the run and can't go back there. Superboy suggests they go and capture Crane there but Dick tells him that they can't because "it's what Crane wants". I mean, I know Jonathon Crane is a psychologist but I didn't realise he was a master reverse psychologist. Is there anything he can't make them do? The Titans must now kick themselves in the nuts because they've been told it's what he wants them to not do? For real - there is nothing shown, nothing at all, that shows he is prepared for them just walking into Wayne Manor and kicking him senseless. He's literally just living there, sleeping in Bruce Wayne's bed and dancing round the house to old pop music.

Related, he now has access to the Batcomputer. Apparently if you just walk into Bruce Wayne's basement and say: "Batcomputer, do you have any files on Jonathon Crane" it serves them up because if you're in the cave you must be allowed. I suppose maybe Jason gave him access but why was Jason's access never revoked? Anyway, it's not shown.

Raven's outfit now has a boob window. I guess the actress is 17 now so that's what happens. Raven is one of the few good characters in the show (not because of the boob window) being someone who actually does something proactive, doesn't whine and has fun special effects. She's still barely in it, unfortunately. This is mostly the Dick and Starfire show.

Scarecrow has consistently been not the remotest bit scary in this series. He now gets even less scary when he tries to mutilate someone but can't bring himself to do it. This is presumably supposed to be dramatic when he instead decides to mutilate his own face which enables him to overcome his fears and vivisect his prisoner. What the fuck is going on with all this? It's completely unscary and he still looks like a young Richard Stallman (praise GNU).

Starfire gets WORSE! I don't know how but she does. Some inane subplot of her having visions of a baby, resulting in her stealing some Gaviscon for a woman's baby, getting shot and having a five minute vision where she remembers her parents giving her Blackfire's powers as an infant because she was born without any but was the eldest. I don't think I can take much more of this forced drama.

Scarecrow has poisoned the water supply with a chemical that REMOVES people's sense of fear. This has led to a crime wave. It doesn't explain why one of the people affected runs in terror from Starfire. Consistency, motherfucker. Do you use it?

Beastboy still has no purpose other than exposition and to be argued down (audience)

A mob of people who for ZERO REASON believe Red Hood (who they've never heard of before) when he says the beloved Titans poisoned the water supply, gather to protect Red Hood from Dick / Nightwing. One of them has a gun. Shoots Nightwing three times but Nightwing is fine because his suit is bulletproof. Nightwing then turns his back on the mob and walks back to Red Hood whom they are protecting and the person who has already shot him three times and has been allowed to keep his gun, shoots Nightwing in the back of the neck where his costume doesn't cover. Wow - fuck me! A person with a gun, who has already tried to kill you three times, realises that to kill you they just have to shoot you where your armour isn't. What kind of a mad genius is this guy to work that out? How could Nightwing ever have anticipated it.

I don't think this can be a spoiler. In the latest episode, after gaining access to the computer systems, Red Hood tells Dick: ""All Your Base Are Belong to Us". That made me laugh, kind of. But that meme is literally older than the actor and character. I mean, it's older than "I can haz cheezeburger".

Anyway, fuck it - this is matching Batwoman line for line on dumbest superhero show on TV. Rant out.

Woooooowww... poisoning an innocent animal. That's pretty sick and not in a good way.

Oh, they hate lights. I think the show is made by vampires. I literally turn the brightness up just to watch this show. I can barely make out what is happening half the time.

Which is kind of a blessing.
You can't notice how shitty the acting and costumes are if you can't see them!

Brilliant!

A look into the writing room:

"Okay so, we've got Dick Grayson, a character that's well adjusted and kind to a fault in the source material...what should we do with him?"

"Let's make him a HUGE edgy, angry asshole."

"Haha, brilliant! Now let's cast a shrimpy dude as Jason Todd. Maybe even an actual midget."

It's back. I don't know how - I really don't. S3 was some of the worst television I have ever seen and if you don't believe me scroll back up about six posts and watch that clip I posted. Hooray for always archiving!

I'd actually managed to forget how bad it was until I re-read one of my posts above and remembered Richard Stallman as the Scarecrow and the utter failure of logic in the writing.

In a way that's good because if I'd fully remembered I might not have watched the two new episodes that just aired for S4.

And you know what? They are... sort of back to S1 levels of quality. Still absurd amounts of gore for a show about the Teen Titans. Still generally dumb and Starfire remains an obnoxiously smug and superior person. I guess they're going for the fact that she's an alien princess in the way she looks down on everyone she meets and has a staggering disregard for human life. Both oddly consistent with the cartoon in a way but without the quirkiness and upbeat nonsense feel of the cartoons, she's just someone you'd never want to hang out with ever. They have given her outfits that look less like a colour-blind stripper though, so she actually looks attractive now. That's a plus.

Lex Luthor is in it now but doesn't look like he'll be a regular character. The actor is good and I quite like the take. Far, far from enough to save the show. The villain is barely worth using spoiler tags for given the heavy-handed and very literal hints that are given but I'll do it out of principle: Brother Blood. Plus it's Teen Titans so this pretty much had to be the villain once they'd used up Death Stroke and Trigon. The actor they've cast I quite like. Seems good. The writing is as over the top simplistic as ever, though.

The writer's endless dodging around having to show Beast Boy actually turn into a beast is painfully obvious. I get that you don't want to blow a big portion of your budget on a guy turning into a variety of animals when having Starfire shoot some Palpatine lightning or Raven's eyes glow red is so much cheaper. But at this point, why even have him in the show? It's not like his powers are actually that great outside of a cartoon anyway. A tiger is as vulnerable to bullets as a human. Well, close.

Raven, Dick and Superboy remain the best actors of the main cast. Superboy in particular is actually pretty good and the only one with much of an interesting arc.

Is this show any good? No. Is Season 4 yet as bad as S2 and S3? No. It's missing Hawk and Dove which is a shame as both actors were really good and they were interesting characters but at least the first couple of episodes are better than previously.

Oh, and Tim Drake is gay now.

Última edición:
I'm shocked the guy who runs Discovery didn't nuke this show.
Yeah. Very surprised it got a S4. 2 was not great but 3 was absolutely terrible. Mainly due to the horrifically bad writing. Maybe they got new writers and thought it could be salvaged. I think they have a deal to sell it on to Netflix afterwards so maybe the financial rewards are greater than we know.

Oh damn there is a thread for this show here. Seeing what they did to my boy Jason/Red Hood in S3 was probably one of the worst adaptations I've seen. How it got a 4th season is beyond and with the new regime I expect a cancellation announcement mid season.

Well, with part 2 of Season 4 starting today, they have confirmed this is the final season.

I have no idea how to explain my relationship with this show. It's bad enough that it'll regularly have me going "Are you fucking kidding me?", but it also will pepper in enough genuinely decent moments that keep me from completely writing it off (though season 3 got close, I'll admit) or going into the CW Shows mindset of 'It's more fun to laugh at it than attempt to engage with it seriously'. Does that count as a guilty pleasure? Confused pleasure?

From what I remember, I thought the first half of season 4 leaned more towards good with the more shitty elements usually surrounding Jinx and 16 Year Old Tim thirsting over the clearly adult Benard. Sebastian was a real highlight, it felt like they managed to nail that building sense of dread as 'fate' seems to cut off every plan the heroes make, Superboy shat out a magic snake and Dick was finally allowed to start a season without resetting his character arc and we got to see much more engaging interactions between him and the Titans.

My immediate problem with the first episode of the second half is that everyone is just kind of... Really casual about everything that just happened. Sebastian's given himself to the cult, the apocalypse is on it's way, Gar is missing or maybe dead, Superboy's fucked off to do his own thing and the Titans are just not carrying any of the dramatic or dreadful tension the end of the first half built up to. Raven's more preoccupied with whether or not Tim's getting that statutory dicking.
