Live Action Minecraft movie coming 2022 - Disaster tag says "fuck this I'm out", quits job

Why, though?
  1. Minecraft is old news. By the time this movie comes out, the kids who played this game will be adults.
  2. Video game movies usually bomb and are basically never unironically good.
  3. Minecraft doesn't lend itself to a story.
  4. Minecraft definitely doesn't lend itself to live action.

All I can think is that some clueless exec thinks there's going to be a boom in game movies in a couple of years and they want to leap on that, or they're pre-empting a nostalgia market, or it's a money-laundering scheme.

a game where you explore and write your own adventures
create your own world

-scripted movie where everything is per-ordained and the audience has no say in the matter-

okay?
You'd have thought people would have learned their lesson from the Telltale Minecraft story game, but I guess not. Steamspy cites the Steam userbase as under half a mil with a 75% rating, doesn't count console chumps though.

Which lesson? Minecraft Story Mode was the only game after the first Walking Dead which made Telltale any money. I don't know how it compares quality-wise to the rest of their output (I detest Telltale), but that thing certainly sold.

2% chance that this will surprise me and it might not be a cynical cash grab. And I'm being generous.
