Linus' graphs look like every short-sighted dipshit company post-covid. That is not an excuse, it just proves he is no better, less exploitative, than any of them. He also points out he's not showing the different Y-axes, they're not equal, so we have no idea how misleading these graphs are.

They went wild in 2021 and especially 2022 with all the free money being thrown around. Then inflation hit as a result and the economy flipped. I will say, it looks like they were "nice" and continued with seemingly large raises (or hiring) into 2023 to compensate cost of living even while profits dropped back down (though it did not drop much past their recent baseline so it's not like they were really struggling). Despite what he says, you now see the wage increases/hiring significantly leveling off right around where Jake says he stopped receiving raises entirely. (Average yearly salary went up $1000 CAD last year, 0.8%, Linus also said, lol.) Instead of giving out bonuses, employees rightfully/naively expected to continue receiving significant raises for every year of experience, especially as the company visibly continues to grow (third house, a fucking jet) even if revenues don't each year. It's not hard to see why they're mad.

I also suspect the profit shown, while not largely growing outside of 2022's spike, is not a dollar amount but a percentage of revenue, which is growing, 2023-2024 notwithstanding. Such that, last year Linus could have "made" $6 million, 15% profit on $40 million in revenue (roughly estimated based on data we know), and the next year or several years later he could make $7.5 million on the same 15% margin if revenue increased to $50 million. If he also grew profit to 20% like he said he wants, he could be making $10 million and beyond. That would be in addition to the salary him and his wife assign to themselves ($121,000 x2), that they live off of, leaving the rest for "business" expenses and investments.

This isn't directly related, it's 2014-2015 numbers, but I'm resharing it because it was annoying for me to find again just in case it becomes relevant again.

By that, I mean they build sets and have a sound stage setup and everything, why have they not build a fake living room and then done a like, retracts into the wall gaming setup, something that'd be ruinously expensive to do to a 'real' home but would just be one of those things that conceptually appeals to the mancave-banished audience. "We've built a full 80 inch gaming lair mansion, and it slides back into the wall and brings out a guests-over friendly setup with a modest screen and lovely decor for when the wife wants to host". Just stretch the viability of automation, home tech and some "why the fuck not" design decisions.
