My boomer dad who hates cops almost as much as he hates Trump said he wasn't sure how he felt about "that kid" after watching his trial coverage. So, if even my dad can see the possibility of self-defense -- Kyle's got a pretty good chance of acquittal. Probably not on the weapons charge since that will allow the jury to convict him of something so it doesn't appear that they just let him get away with it.

I don't think Kyle should have been there that night, but I don't think any of the victims should have been either. Kyle was young, dumb, and naive. The others were trash using BLM as an excuse to engage in mayhem. I think a lot of these people wanted an excuse to be out of the house and express their rage during a pandemic.

Kyle's mother never should have let him go to it, though. She should have known how dangerous these people were and talked him out of going. His life is messed up now. He will always be the kid that killed 2 people and shot another. He'll never get to be a cop. The future looks pretty bleak for him and that's a shame because I think he was probably a decent, if misguided, kid.

But whether he should have been there or not, he was. And having watched a video of sword guy getting curb stomped during the riots, I've no doubt that Kyle would have been in real danger of dying if not for that gun. I think most normal people would view it that way.
