I could care less about whats his face and what's her face, but I'm down with Goodman, Reilly and Jackson fucking with skull island wildlife. As everyone knows, the crevasse scene was the best part of the last movie.

Apocalypse Kong. Thoughts?

Between this trailer and the first one, it seems like Kong's design had change (though the first trailer kept him from being revealed). So it seems this movie won't be having Kong in New York but rather have the human characters deal with creatures on Skull Island.

I'm really looking forward to this movie but the new trailer basically ruined all the setup from the first one.

Half the fun of monster movies is waiting to get a good look at the weird beasties. This trailer has given it all up front and worse than that the skull crawlers or whatever are incredibly lackluster.

I think the two most common internet cryposts about Godzilla '14 after 'Muh Walter White' was that people had to wait to see the monsters and the lack of comic relief. Now I don't mind waiting a bit to see the monsters, but I'm not going to literally shake if they just show us monsters up front.

Bearded Jar Jar Binks is a turn off though.

So I hear they're going to pit Kong against Godzilla in 2020. Looks like "Vs." movies are making a comeback.

It's not that weird, a good 95% of Godzilla movies include him fighting another monster of some kind as a plot point. Also other than Shin Godzilla and the American movies, the original 1962 King Kong vs Godzilla was the most profitable Godzilla movie ever.

There's also the fact that the head of Legendary Pictures is a big, fat monster movie fanboy who's main justification for this was, and I quote, "I just wanted to see them fight.".

I didn't mind waiting to see Godzilla in the 2014 movie (though I did mind the plot leading up to it was just focusing on the same Whitebread McArmyRanger character you see in every Bay-era action movie). But I was disappointed he wasn't even the focus monster. My biggest gripe with Godzilla 2014 is I didn't see a Godzilla movie. I saw a Cloverfield sequel featuring Godzilla as a special guest star.

Now I'm concerned this Kong movie will be the same thing, focusing mostly on those stupid-looking Not!Dinosaurs instead of the big ape himself. Say what you will about the Jackson remake, at least it actually was about King Kong.

I don't really count "Yeah it's not bad" as a good review. What I get from these reviews is it's a polished, unoffensive creature feature with a good budget. Movies like these are a dime a dozen nowadays, but at the same time I won't complain. It's got a 200 foot tall monkey in it and some other weird beasties so I'll still see it.

It seems to me like they're going with the same approach as Marvel, in that the big event is Kong vs Godzilla, and so this is basically a mediocre movie to make money off people looking forward to that. Just as people were willing to sit through Iron Man 2 and Thor because they built up to the Avengers.
