Kiwi Encounters with Celebrities IRL - It's that guy from that thing!

I saw former MTV VJ Matt Pinfield at the Princeton Record Exchange once.

I bumped into Cowboys superstar Emmitt Smith at Generation X Comics in Dallas, of all places. He was there buying a fancy crystal chess set. Of course, being the kind of sheltered weirdo that would haunt Generation X Comics, I initially had no idea who he was, until the guy at the counter let me in on it. Mr. Smith was actually quite polite, even saying, 'excuse me, sir' to me when I was blocking him at the display case. This was a long time ago, during the heyday of Cowboy dominance in the NFL; it must have been surreal to see one of the richest athletes in the world refer to me, a fat nerdy teen with pimples and a box of plastic Tyranid Warriors in his armpit, as 'sir.'

My aunt often talks about how she'd talked to Michael Phelps when she was lifeguarding at the Olympic trials. From what I can recall correctly he only said a couple words to her but that was enough.

I myself almost got to speak to Ryan Lochte when I went to the Olympic Trials to watch, but ended up not being able to because he was surrounded by reporters and his coach was trying to get him back to the locker room. I didn't want to be rude because I'm pretty sure the dude was tired after swimming for 3 hours.

Also, my mom swears Kevin James goes to our church, but I've personally never seen him.

i have sold firearms to both Alton Brown and Hillary Duff. i met Ted Nugent at Knob Creek. i also worked with Michael Vining for a bit in the late 90's.

i've provided weapons on loan to various theatrical films both for promotional material as well as screen time.

there's a few local celebrities, mostly politicians, i've shaken hands with and spoken to.

Had a beer with Terry Pratchett once when I was on holiday in Somerset and happened to be in a pub in Wincanton. Kinda surreal when your favorite author strolls in and sits down beside you and you aren't expecting it. I regained my eloquence quickly enough to have a conversation with him. My wife, who was browsing the high street while I was in the pub walked in just as we were sharing a friendly handshake and he was leaving. She nearly shit herself with jealousy, fuck I cried when I heard he was dead.

I also had Myleen Klass pop her purt buttocks on my lap when I was working in a radio station. She was actually really cool, waiting on an interview for a dull local radio station and decided to come and chat with the only other person in the room.

Lastly as I said in the retail thread I went to college with somebody who landed a major role in Harry Potter (one of the Weasleys) and his behaviour in the immediate wake of the premier of the first film caused me to call him an 'entitled arsegargling cunt' in front of like fifty people.

Chris Rankin?

Nah, it wasn't hard to narrow down who it was. It was either gonna be him or Dombnall Gleeson and Gleeson has acted in other stuff before Harry Potter, while it was Rankin's first film role. It's okay mate, he hasn't been in anything big since then.
Yeah because he's a fucking terrible actor. If you watch the first film there's a scene at the end when they're all patting Harry on the shoulder and telling him how great he is an you can see Rankin elbow a small child out of the way to get himself in shot. The way he carried on after the film came out you'd think he'd just won a fucking Oscar for it. Also he wrecked 3 Caterham 7's in a few months, 2 of them when he was DRIVING THEM HOME FROM THE FACTORY! That in and of itself is a serious crime against engineering and art.

Met the dude who played Screech when he play with his cousin's band Much back in the late 90's. Dude got Hella pissed that we weren't mpressed with him and asked me to suck his dick. I said my standards weren't that low, and he screamed at me for 20 min u til his cousin came and dragged him away. good times....

Also met Trent Reznor after the Pretty HATE Machine album, at a coffee shop in Alameda. I was kinda rude to him and he asked me "Don't you know who I am? " I asked him "No. Don't you know who I am?" he laughed and walked off. my friend knew who he was and about died.

Met Gwen Stefani after a concert in Modesto, after I'm Just a Girl came out. She was really funny and down to earth back then.

Had a water bottle hit me in the forehead that was thrown by the lead singer of Collective Soul. they were opening for Aerosmith and had only Shine that was popular. I didn't blame him tho. I was booing him pretty loudly from my boyfriends shoulders where I was sitting. totally deserved it.

I forgot about this one, but I mentioned it briefly in the Secret Santa thread. I once stole a taxi from Brian Cox (the actor, not the astronomer). I didn't realise it was him until I was in the taxi and it was pulling away, and even then the taxi driver had to point out it was him. I think the taxi driver was rather disappointed because he was hoping to get a big tip from a celebrity and ended up with me instead.

I met Steve Irwin at his zoo. He was tending the Tassie Devils, jumped over and started talking to my mother and me. Greatest day ever, when we left he got out of his truck and said goodbye.

I witnessed my dad fangirling over shaking Sir Richard Branson's hand. Guy is incredibly friendly.

I briefly encountered Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at a restaurant once. He seemed like a cool and chill dude.

I know this encounter isn't one I directly witnessed, but it's an interesting one in my family. My mother once saw Sharon Stone and James Woods while she was working at a cruise line office, they were starring in a film being shot right outside. (This was around '93, maybe '94) She had said that Stone was a pompous asshole to everyone around her, a very unpleasant woman. On the bright side, Woods was a gentleman. He was even kind enough to give her his autograph!

After a concert at the California State Fair, Weird Al Yankovic waved toward a group of people that included my friends and I. Seemed like a nice guy.

I met Bill Clinton when I was like 16, when his presidential library opened. He's really tall. I also saw Bono, but who gives a rats ass about him.

My dad met Sarah Palins husband back when that dumpster of a family was relevant. My dad is a cop, and his town holds an annual a snowmobile race Palin was in for some reason. Apparently he was a massive cunt to all the cops that had to baby sit him, and everyone in general. For whatever reason, Palin thought they were going to make the event about him and his clown of a wife (who wasn't even there), and he got pissed when a bunch of liberals in a liberal state mostly ignored him and went about their snowmobile race.

He also met Cindy Crawford when Clinton was running for his first presidential term. He wouldn't let her into whatever part of the building Bill was in, and she yelled at him. The end.

I don't remember it well, but my Dad once told me a story of when he accidentally ran into The Ramones at their concert back in the '80s. One of the things that he remembered was that one of the members seemed to be a germaphobe and didn't want his hand shaken. I think it was Dee Dee, but I'm not sure. Other then that, they seemed pretty nice. My Dad told me this story back in the early 2000s, and sadly he's not around anymore, so I can't find out what else happened. :(

I have a few since I worked at a couple of touristy locations before.

Jeff Kent: Not a huge celebrity but he did play for the San Francisco Giants in the late 90s/early 2000s. He was having an autograph sessions around that time and my mom took me to it, since my family are huge Giants fans. Since then, I've heard some not so flattering stuff about him but he was actually really nice and engaging. My mom thinks it's because he had a daughter around my age (I was a little girl at the time).

John Lassater: Another story that had to do with the Giants. I used to work for ATT&T park. Never met any of the players (Well, I did walk past Buster Posey once but that's it) but a lot of their wives and girlfriends would come into the store and get a bunch of merchandise. But I met a few celebrities through that job. John Lassater was one of them. I remember my co worker saying "Hey! That's the Pixar guy!" when he came into the store but I didn't recognize him. It wasn't until I had to ring up an unassuming middle aged man in a Giants themed Hawaiian shirt who gave me his ID when I asked for it since he was using credit, I saw through his driver's license that it was indeed him. I didn't say anything since I'm really shy in real life and I didn't want to be another tard bothering him. He was really nice and polite though.

Carrot Top: Another celebrity I "met" through that job. I actually didn't talk to him but I remember it being the most surreal experiences of my life. Just looking around the room and all of the sudden, Carrot Top out of all celebrities is in your line of vision. He had who I assume was his girlfriend with him who was kinda bitchy to me when I asked if she needed any help. Oh and Stan Lee was at that same game too but I never saw him.

Joel Mchale: I now work at the Ferry Building in San Francisco. I guess he was in town promoting his book or something. Earlier I knew that he was in the building but it wasn't until he walked past the store and my coworker invited him in. Got a picture with him and awkwardly told him that I used to love The Soup. He was charming and very engaging but I imagine that he was probably a bit drunk since he hit up the wine bar across from our store. Also brought some chocolate from us.

I met George Bush (The elder) when I was in 1st grade while my family was stationed in Maine. He was VP at the time and was touring local schools (we lived close to his summer home in Kennebunk) . We all got to go up and shake his hand after he read us a book, I will always remember it because to this day when I smell the old school original Old Spice I cannot help but think "It smells like George Bush in here"

A friend of mine from college ended up being Ludacris' personal pilot for a few months while I was still in the Marines. I took some leave to go down to Atlanta to hang out with my buddy and he got a call from Ludacris to come down to the airport and fly him to Chapel Hill. So I went with my friend and flew as his copilot (just handled radios and the GPS as I had zero experience with the plane itself), onboard with us was just had Ludacris and two of his friends and they kept coming in to the cockpit to sit in the jump seat and chill. When we landed Ludacris personally thanked us both for showing up at the last minute from hanging out to get him there just to see some other guy perform. Super laid back and gracious guy
