Since I'm a huge history nerd, I would be totally in favor of historically accurate games becoming a thing, even if they are in a part of the world and an era that doesn't interest me that much, it's still a nice idea.
I read "Water Music" by Boyle a short while ago and I think an open world exploration game where your goal is to find the Niger could be absolutely amazing.

And I genuinely think an RPG set in Africa could be quite fun... hell a phantasy game set in a world inspired by african folklore could blow some fresh air into the genre and it wouldn't surprise me one little bit if those that are enjoying KCD now would at least be intrigued by a game set in -say- the Zulu Wars.

But as has mentioned, anything less than a depiction of carebears-tier harmony and buddha-like enlightenment amongst the blacks in such a game would lead to massive amounts of salt.
YT will have to be the devil incarnate while the poor PoCs need to be absolutely peaceful, smart and awesome. Just hint at the idea that one tribe might be at war with the other and you're in for endless waves of whining by the usual suspects... Today I got someone saying that 'historical accuracy' is a dogwhistle, and that because there are a variety of accents used in the game (allegedly - he'd only seen the trailer) that might not be region-appropriate, it meant picking and choosing when to be historically accurate which equals racist.

You aren't. The closest thing to what you Anglos would call "POC" in early 15th century central Europe were the Cumans who were Asiatic Turks that at the time were increasingly assimilated by the Hungarians. They even speak Hungarian from what little I've seen of the game. While you didn't have a racial diversity like in LA or BBC "historical" documentaries, you had a very rich cultural diversity though which was one of the many reasons the Holy Roman Empire was such an unbelievable clusterfuck.

Don't hold your breath. They pulled a Quicklook (it was scheduled, Dan said he was working on it, but it didn't go up at the scheduled time) on A Hat in Time. Sometimes things don't work out due to technical issues, sure, but they also didn't do any coverage for it – not even a review – and only brought it up on the GOTY podcasts to say that "the devs are gross people". So it seems like they pulled coverage intentionally.
