A place to discuss the collective spiritual, cultural, and legal traditions of the Jewish people. Holy books and texts to talk about include: Hebrew Bible (Tanakh/Miqra) and the Talmud (which includes the Mishnah, which means "repetition" or "study" and the Gemara, which means "addition" or "completion."). Authority on theological and legal matters is not vested in any one person or organization, but in the sacred texts and the rabbis and scholars who interpret them.

I think we can all agree it's not pedophilia when a rabbi does it constantly out in the open, unlike those evil Catholic priests who rarely do it and hide it from all other Catholics out of shame.

I already thought up a tough one:
Is "vocaloid" style text to speech software (such as Hatsune Miku), designed to mimic the female singing voice without the use of voice acting, considered kol isha (female singing)?

How about music generated using machine learning that sounds female and is trained on female voices?

My favorite part of Judaism is when they are so cowardly they cant help but attack women and children, when that's not available they poison wells and use other tactics to avoid confrontation, because they are women at heart. This is why Judaism follows a matrilineal line.

I am not anti-Semitic per se but My main issue with Judaism is that as a religion it is all about technicalities and letter of the law interpretation of their holy texts. Something Christ himself specifically condemned when talking to the Sanhedrin.

Example: They can’t set fires on Saturdays so what do they do when they need to start their car? They ask someone else (goyim) to start it for them. This is reasonable to Judaic Law as it wasn’t them who started the fire, so they can use it however they please. The law requires women to cover their heads? Well guess what, a wig is a head coverings to. Judaic law is so archaic and draconian that a person would probably collapse in on themselves within a day. In part I don’t blame them for being so successful in law and politics, by consequence of their religion they have been inoculated to it since they were born.

They Jew themselves out of being Jewish and call it faith.

christianity might be the only religion that doesn't have such stupid laws

It is a religion of rituals and behaviors which have been codified to an extent.

To be honest, it’s not so much different to any other religion when it comes to their behaviors. Sikhs are mandated to have a blade on them at all times. Obviously there are many laws which prohibit carrying a weapon so the solution is to carry a blade permanently attached to its sheath. Holding to the letter of the law to satisfy it.

Christians have their own traditions. When to pray, how to pray, how to conduct certain rituals, how to present yourself, etc. Those sects with a centralized authority have codified those traditions, to the point where you have Catholics arguing about whether Mass should be in Latin or in the Common Tongue. That seems to me to be a question of whether to have strict adherence to the law or follow the spirit of the law.

From a purely sociological and historical perspective Legalism in religion is not necessarily a rare or bad thing for it to prosper, it’s when you assume that everything is up for grabs in which you get to Jewish behavior.

Biases aside, I would argue that Catholics do have a legalistic tradition but it is not necessarily a question of the word or spirit of the law like in Judaism or even Islam. The catholic and orthodox churches have had numerous councils with all bishops in their respective religions to settle theological disputes or set definitive answers to certain questions, this assumes that their is a certain standard that has to be met in which the Jews don’t necessarily have to have like in my sabbath example. They both operate in which there is a standard that they are trying to reach a definitive conclusion to in order to go forward. Jews have been the same since Jesus’ time because their is no higher moral authority then a Jew Lawyer, not God.

Nah it's because of the infinite foresight that there is only 1 parent 100% sure.

Yes. For example, clasping hands together is a pre-christian method of europagan prayer, whereas the jewish method was to hold open the palms to the heaven.

I like Soulseek. It is definitely one of my favorite modern Jewish inventions.
