Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

I'm no political expert, but I think the only thing worse for Joey's poll numbers than getting into a war would be to reinstate the draft.
everyone was just psyopped into putting masks on their kids and not letting see them friends and being ok with thousands of Americans dying from suicides and overdoses

it will take maybe a week to turn them into the kinds of people who will snitch on you for draft evasion

At this point it is clear they do want it. Why? -I have no idea-. I think they are wanting to copy Bush's playbook but.... there is nothing here and Putin absolutely will not give them anything to use.
I honestly think things like the Desert War managed to psyop them into thinking that all wars result in a boost to presidential popularity because of "unity" or something. Which is frankly a terrifying thought.

Until they're drafted.

They'll probably need something to renew Putin's Emmanuel Goldstein mileage, in order to get people to give a shit. Such as...

I'm... not sure. I think they want Russia to march in and commit a few atrocities in order to try to gin up support here in the U.S.

There are multiple problems with this, the first one simply being that Biden is absolutely hated and getting people to rally behind him is an uphill battle to -start-.
Besides the obvious issues, I think any military action, especially any US deaths, are going to reopen the Afghanistan wounds immediately. Time and some media manipulation memory holes it pretty well, but the openings presented by any flag draped coffins coming back from the Ukraine are going to give the leverage to slam Biden for terrible military planning all over again. I don't understand the risk calculus here at all.

I feel like the only way to gain any political benefit would be an absolutely fictional series of events where US forces brilliantly out maneuver the Russians, win without firing a shot, and Putin prostrates himself on the White House lawn. Since that won't happen, the only outcomes are negative. It makes zero sense and just opens up additional avenues of attack!

Given the number of people -here- who seem to think it'll result in a magical approval bump... its not just them who think it.

How fucked is Europe if Russia decides to actually go yo war over this? Does any country in Europe have any army to speak of or are they actually just on the teet of the US?
During the Cold War, and even into the very early 2000s, the stratagem for European countries was to delay Soviet/Russian advance for as long as possible to give US forces to build and react. All on the pretense that there wouldn't be enough US forces around in the beginning, so there were going to be big losses. I think they got more comfortable seeing how strong US airpower was, but you can't win a war on multi-role fighters and their ordinance alone. UK has some projection power, but that's it. During the Syrian air campaigns back about a decade ago, France participated, but ran out of missiles. The entire country went through it's armament and stockpile of all their cruise missiles.

If you happened to see any combat footage or propaganda out of Russia during the Syrian conflict, you would see stuff that would have you believe you were looking at US military hardware. Live-feed satellite based cameras. Infrared imaging. Drones. Laser guided missiles and bombs. They were flexing and showing off in Syria similarly to how we did so in Iraq during the Gulf War.

We've been running around shooting Hadjis in the desert for two decades, and I don't think we were allowed to win those conflicts despite our overwhelming ability to crush them. If we had to go up against an opponent that was symmetrical capability to us in technology and fighting power, we'd curse the day we let fuckers like Miley anywhere near should boards with stars on them. Years and years ago, someone could dismiss the threat of Russia by reminding everyone that Russia was an inept society run by fish-egg huffing, corrupt, vodka drinking day-drinkers. Compare that to the US and our Floyd Worshipping LGBTQ+ neghole pozzing, and it suddenly seems like a very unfair fight for us.

Budapest has been dead since 2014 and the annexation of the Crimea. Usa and UK are as much in blatant violation of that by doing nothing as Russia is for the annexation. UK and USA decided nearly a decade ago that they're not getting involved.
I don’t think Budapest is dead. The other signatories chose sanctions over military support but there was a response. Otherwise I appreciate the info.

Not if you lose.
It's not about geopolitical victories. It's about fattening the bank accounts of arms merchants and giving more justifications for a domestic surveillance state.

TPTB are trying to make Biden into the Second Coming of FDR. BBB was supposed to be the New New Deal, and now that that is kaput, they're skipping to WW3.

You guys have to remember that everyone making these decisions is a minimum of 75 years old. They still live in a world in which we only have one black and white propaganda channel and starting a war results in a +20% jump in approval ratings.

Boomercide now.

Member when Trump told the rest of NATO to pony up more dosh because it shouldn't be on the US and they (plus the US media) through a shitfit because him not footing the bill meant he was purposely weakening NATO for Russia.

Fuck, to this day I still don't understand that logic and that so many people agreed with it.

Assuming US aggression? Does a "defensive" war change that at all?
Yes! It's still negative, mind you, but it goes from "Apocalyptically bad" to "potentially salvageable and even turnable into a boon".

The problem is that Putin knows this, and is basically daring them to start the shit themselves... or giving the appearance of it. Like letting the US pull its diplomats first, or set up troops first, or do anything first.

Like we have now. It's why the EU is cross with us right now.
