Mostly agree. But it isn't just Americans that don't know what is happening. Europeans and Russians are in the same boat and I would wager most Ukrainians, too. This is by design and proximity to the conflict is largely irrelevant anymore. You should look past your bias.

Last time I looked in the Ukraine war it was purely Russian cope. The question who are the bad guys already ended with the predictable result and most people got bored of the conflict that is just the two sides out-tarding each other, with Ukraine hyperbolic on every tiny (likely manufactured) event, and the Russians repeatedly fucking up in their military logistics.
