Outlaw Star is the series Joss Whedon ripped off to make Firefly. It's got some good action and some good characters.

I'd recommend Mushishi if you like Monster Of The Week shows with natural beauty and Japanese mysticism.

Fate/Zero. Others would recommend Fate/stay Night or Unlimited Blade Works first in order to appreciate the twist that happens in "stay/Night" but I think the series suffers from Darth Vader syndrome.

I hope you did not listen to this guy, but it's been two years so I could be too late. Still though, you'd be way better off just reading the Fate/Stay Night VN, Zero is a prequel technically set in an alternate universe and it kinda fucks some stuff up, particularly Saber's characterization. It is not meant for people just getting into the series at all, it is a prequel made for fans of the visual novel.
