I need an anime recommendation - inb4 Boku no Pico

OK, I'm all out of anime to watch (except for One Piece, which is looking at a multi-year commitment), and I'm looking for something relatively short (26 episodes or less, not counting specials and films) but worth investing in with a great soundtrack and good cliffhangers. Some anime that I have watched and roughly fit into this category include Neon Genesis Evangelion, Kill la Kill, and Cowboy Bebop (which didn't have cliffhangers for the most part but a good anthology series). I know all of those are mainstream (for anime) but that's okay.

Got any good ideas?

Black Lagoon's pretty fun. The soundtrack is hit or miss but if you liked Bebop you'd probably enjoy it.

Welcome to the NHK, Texhnolyze, Great Teacher Onizuka, Cromartie High School, Saint Young Men. GTO is longer than 26 episodes, but hilarious. Saint Young Men is the Jesus and Buddha anime.

The Hellsing TV anime is pretty decent if you don't care about anime being faithful to the manga. Also has a great soundtrack.

Seconding the Ghost Stories English dub. It's a masterpiece.

I can only recommend animes that are based off of video games.

The Ace Attorney trilogy and Professor Layton & The Eternal Diva would be the most recent suggestions I can give. Battle Arena Toshinden is pretty ok too.

If you're going to watch Street Fighter II The Animated Movie find yourself a sub copy... the english dubs do NOT age well.
