The most frustrating aspect of modern Boomer environmentalism is how its purely about aesthetics instead of carbon output and pollution.
- Laws that make nuclear energy prohibitively expensive to the point where we basically have magic rock energy being blocked by paperwork
- Zoning laws that mandate suburbia to create "green space" and nice lawned communities. These of course require paving over alot more land, creating more infrastructure and necessitates longer driving distances that create more carbon
- Emission standards that basically ban smaller trucks, stationwagons, certain vans & motorbikes while incentivizing SUVs. The SUV is objectively worse for the environment, but it looks sleek and green so its better apparently.
- Heavy taxation and regulation on trains because they billow smoke even though they are the greenest transportation.
- Government programs like Cash for Clunkers that paid people to destroy their used outdated cars. Buying used is always better for the environment, but fuck it - the new stuff is shiny and greener.
