Obviously their words are important, but the avatar is like the cover of a book, you see it first and you get your initial impressions based on it be they right or wrong.

So for you, how much does an avatar influence your view on a user?

It doesn't really. The most that happens is I'll read Null's posts in his trademark crying jew voice, which is especially funny given how mild mannered he is in speech compared to his writing.

Well, If it's an anime avaturd it allows me to easily dismiss anything they say as wrong think if need be.

90% of the time I don't really notice people's avatars. Everyone's avatars are pretty much pure autism anyway. I do notice @Bargain Bin Laden's bright red shit though. I appreciate his choice. When I see that red flash I know I can just scroll by without reading and nothing of value will be missed.

The only ones I judge are anime avatars but besides that avatars don't really affect my judgment.

I often take it into consideration, especially if you take into account other factors like whether or not someone changes their pfp.

If they use the same image and never change it then it's probably less important, but if someone adjusts it on an ongoing basis then it can be viewed as more significant.
Also if it has some significance to the site, or if it's obviously meant to provoke some kind of visceral reaction.

In general when you're in a context where you deal with a lot of absurd concepts and individuals and are forced to discern how genuine people's responses are, pfps are a pretty useful data point.

I love seeing when users have creative avatar/username combos, or at least ones that go well together. Lit Cigarette, for example. That's all it really is though, a first impression.
