Teh internet is serious business. Websites should go down sometimes, that should be expected and normal instead of having some weird obsession with 99.9999% uptime like people have. Sometimes I'll take Ratwires down for like a week and lose all the posts cus I fucked the package manager or whatever and it's just like whatever man it's chill. I took down Ratwires a few times cus Finnish druggies started using it, I just kept taking it down until they eventually fucked off.

I think the obsession with uptime started as an offshoot of the epeen measuring contests we all had on IRC etc back in the day, where we'd show off how long our systems could go without crashing because we were so 1337 and managed to avoid the fuckups normies were prone to/built rock solid systems. With the current trend of everybody monetizing their content now, though, it's more of a business concern I think. Downtime = missed clicks, frequent downtime = lost views long term because people will just go elsewhere for whatever it is you're providing instead of dealing with the hassle.
