They want the aesthetics and trappings of the dark and edgy, but without it actually being dark and edgy because that would inevitably offend someone's delicate liberal sensibilities (especially theirs). Plenty of people in the horror fandom were pussies back in the day too, but they usually at least aspired to not be. Now, being physically and mentally weak is celebrated, and victimhood is sanctified.
