Old family documents I've been shown by my grandparents showed a large portion of my family died in the American Revolution. Out of seven brothers, and the father, only two came home. From those guys the family tree sprouted. Weird to think about really.
 
I'm descended from the illegitimate son of a late medieval English king, which makes me about 1 millionth in line to the throne (out of a nation of 60 million).

Also my great grandmother was a Danish resistance fighter who shot a lot of Nazis and blew up their stuff with dynamite, and then married a prominent lawyer who delivered yet more of them to the gallows after the war.
 
I have a distant relative who moved to America and made made a car run on horse shit in the 1950s.
 
There's a legend in my family that we're somehow related to Lord Horatio Nelson in some way but I'd never be able to prove it so I haven't bothered looking into it.
 
On my my father's side I'm descended from the House of Châtillon in France, which produced a few Popes and other notable figures, and Raynald du Châtillon, a crusader. He's played by Brendan Gleeson in Kingdom of Heaven.
I also may or may not be tangentially related to an Apartheid-era government hitman.
 
My family name is a pre-indo-european placename

I'm related to some dude named Adam, who had a shit-talking, con-artist wife who pissed off the landlord so bad he had to throw them both out. He raised a couple of absolute loser pervs for sons, who fucked their own sisters. One day, one of the sons got so wasted, he killed his own brother. And this was even before there was a Florida.

After that, my lineage gets a little murky, and there were potato pickers involved.
 
Don't know anyone famous in particular, but I just found out this morning I'm descended from 5 revolutionaries so that's pretty cool
 
Eh... unfortunately, due to various wars, my family line has become hard to trace. I know that all my grandparents had Aryan Certificates.
My maternal grandfather was from Danzig, served on a minesweeper in the baltic sea and joined the Légion Étrangère after the war (cause the french soldiers had cigarettes) and served in Casablanca (where he was almost killed by a few moroccans after getting drunk during a patrol), Agadir (where he once had to drive some dude around with a suitcase containing the entire wages of the troops in Morroco at the time and contemplated shooting him and running away with the money) and also in Indochina (where he was almost shot by a sniper cause he was smoking in the dark and also almost got eaten by a tiger).

On my paternal side, I don't know much, however my family name is very rare (roughly 200 people in all of Germany have this name, it does not exist elsewhere and it only is limited to a very, very small area in Germany). This family name seems to originate from a dialect that has been spoken in this very area 2000 years ago, indicating an unbroken lineage of people from this area.
Also, this family name apparently translates to "Cunning".
