How many Kiwis here are related to famous (or infamous) figures in history?
I'm not asking for anyone's family tree (no powerleveling), I'm just asking if there are notable relatives in it.
For example, let's take me.
I am a direct descendant of Robert Daniell, 3rd Royal Deputy Governor of North Carolina from 1704 to 1705 and 18th Royal Governor of South Carolina from 1716 to 1717.
Infamously, he participated in the Siege of St. Augustine of 1702 during Queen Anne's War (1702–1713). In fact, he managed to walk into St. Augustine on November 10, 1702, with little resistance. I've been to St. Augustine multiple times and, until recently, I had no idea that I was walking the same streets as my ancestor!
As for the siege, Daniell was sent to Jamaica by Royal Governor James Moore to gather supplies for the besieged English troops. He failed to return in time to relieve them in time and Moore was forced to abandon St. Augustine (not before going scorched earth on the way out). Oops.
Ironically, Daniell's grandson fought in the Virginia Line during the American Revolution.
Now for a two-for-one: Daniell is directly descended from King Edward III of England.
In other words, I am royalty, bitch!

a friend from school managed to get his ancestor's letters, which were pretty fascinating. He was a general in the civil war.

TLDR: he commanded a black regiment at the Battle of the Crater. He got shot in the face with a Minie Ball (a .58 caliber round), so most of his teeth got knocked out, and the men in his command dragged him to safety.

My mom is super interested in putting together our ancestry and told me that we had a Baron and one of the architects that worked on the Louvre in the family. I don't honestly care who I'm descended from, if they failed to carry their success forward then they're probably losers.

So I'm tangentially related to a horse thief who died climbing out a window after being shot by an Alabama governor for fucking his wife in his own home. He's semi famous I guess if you live in certain parts of Alabama but I doubt most people have heard of it.

I have some Irish ancestry that came to the states circa 1848 to escape the potato famine, so chances are good one of my Mick ancestors drunkenly punched someone famous.

not to brag but I'm directly related to OP's mom via my penis 8)

Press [X] to doubt.

I'm not directly related to anybody historically significant, but I once interacted with a commie who is a direct descendant of Nathan Bedford Forrest, the very first grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan.

I would say "how ironic," but I remembered this nozzle probably votes Democrat, just like Forrest.

Null was a nigger on my farm, will give someone 2 chickens if they bring him back dead or alive. We just miss him...Seriously though, on my dad his fathers side of the family doesn't have a last name. My great grandfather emigrated(legally) from Spain/Italian/whatever(cant remember) and it turns out the family last name literally means slave.

So my family name means slave in latin, spanish/italian/whatever. Kind of depressing really.
