HBO’s Watchmen - NOTHING EVER ENDS...Except When It Should
Abar finds a single unbroken egg in her kitchen and recalls when dr Manhattan told her he could put his powers into an egg and whoever eat it would get them. She then eats the egg and stands in front of the pool and the end que season 2.
What the fuck is it with the SUBVERSIVE types that take some property and make it about something fucking stupid and then SUBVERT that into a watered down retread?
Watchmen season finale: the show actually pulled it together far better then I was expecting minus dropping most characters plot threads (where’s petey? And looking glass and Laurie just kinda stand around).
This alone makes it a shit follow up. You can't just make a show be shit for 8 episodes, then go "LOL fooled you" at the end and expect the past 8 episodes to suddenly be good. At the end of the day you're still going to hate 8/9 episodes.
The fact that there will people heralding this as 'the new golden show' is fucking insulting and shows that good writing is gone.
One of the more interesting changes I found was the characterization of dr mahatten. Instead of simply keeping him an aloof god like the original the show instead portrays him as more human then human. He is able to fall in love with someone every second of his life as he can feel every second of time at once.

When did I say that? The best episodes of the show are 3 and 5 and I think the second half the series has a lot of flaws. I was just pleasantly surprised that the show managed to pull of a half decent ending despite leaving a shit ton of plot threads hanging. It wasn’t really subversion either (unless you count walking into something expecting too hate it and somewhat liking it as subversion) I was calling this take since my post on episode one.
I’d give the show a 7.5 so far due to he plotting problems making some moments lose a lot of impacts but it atleast tries to do something interesting with the watchmen unlike stuff like before watchmen. I’d rather see comic book stories like this where creators give their own spin on a well known property or character then the modern approach of “comic accurate storytelling”. If I want comic accurate storytelling I’ll just read the comic. Synder movie tried something similar too by replacing Moore’s attempted realism with absurd maximalism.
A) It renders pointless many of the world building details. Veidt's weird pet was meant to show that genetic modification was a reality in that universe, as was stuff like people eating four legged turkeys. Same with the background details about psychic powers.
B) Veidt's plan due to the change makes no sense at all. The rest of the world seemed to view Doctor Manhattan as an American made and controlled WMD. Him seemingly going berserk and killing people would just divide nations further and ramp up paranoia.

I agree. Solid casting and they nailed the aesthetic.
Changing it to Dr. Manhattan was super implausible though. There is no way in hell the Soviets would call it even after the American super weapon blew up Moscow, irregardless of him doing the same to Manhattan.
Every time I see something new about this show, all I can think is
How can they fuck up the source material this badly? It's basically like "Oh yeah, remember this from the book? It was really like this!" and proceed to shit all over it. It's almost like Star Wars in that every time they change something, the change is almost entirely fucking stupid. I really hope the Amazon Lord of the Rings series isn't this bad.

As much as I dislike the change to Veidt's plan, at the same time I don't know how they could have feasibly fit the squid in an already busy and long movie. Go back and read the comic; the squid was being foreshadowed from basically the start, with a lot of the finer details being relegated to subtle background details that served to paint a bigger picture. I don't really see how they could have squeezed in the squid without making the movie overstuffed.
I'm not defending the change to Dr. Manhattan mind you, I think it signifies a lot of the movie's weaknesses and as others have pointed out it makes no sense. If you asked me a year or two ago, I would have said the best way to adapt Watchmen would have been as a miniseries since that would allow for the subtle background details that make the squid work, but with this show I now think that Watchmen should stay as a comic because that's the story in its purest form.
I’m still shocked that the last episode of watchmen wasn’t utter shit. The ending(well epilogue ) was really reall R E T A R D E D but it actually explained everything else very well and it made sense why everything actually had a part in the finalie and even shity shows don’t give you this kind of closure .
i find it that making The racists just pawns of trieu to be actually a good twist especially since she only used them to fulfill a bargain with Hooded Negro . She didn’t even give a shit that they were doing the masks plan .sister night was basically the most useless character in the whole show . Doc Manhattan did blackface as his last action on earth , Kinda sad that Ozzy got yipped after Saving the world from an ego maniac( and because he was the best part of the show ) . Nite owl is still in jail , Laurie did barely did anything in the end (which is a shame since she was a highlight of the show ) Kinda wished rorshach could’ve inspired something other than racists who wanted to make his image into the face of anarchy
in the end I give it a C+ it’s kinda passing the class but they should’ve put more thinking and effort into their work
Watchmen season finale: the show actually pulled it together far better then I was expecting minus dropping most characters plot threads (where’s petey? And looking glass and Laurie just kinda stand around). The show also goes full radical centrism.
TLDR: anyone who comes up with a plan to save the world is a crazed narrssisct and the world will probably be fine. A basic take but a lot better then the woke bullshit I was expecting.
The seventh kalvary was actually a sci op created by lady trieu to capture dr mahatten and trick him into thinking they were the threat when she would swoop in and take his power to save the world. The ozymandius scenes actually took place before the show even started and the golden ozy statue was just a frozen ozymandius. Through some dr mahatten teleportation veldit is able to rain frozen squids in Tulsa killing trieu before her plan can be completed. Laurie’s and looking glass arrest ozymandius. Abar finds a single unbroken egg in her kitchen and recalls when dr Manhattan told her he could put his powers into an egg and whoever eat it would get them. She then eats the egg and stands in front of the pool and the end que season 2.
While the plotting is a bit too loose and the show lacks the iconic moments of the original the show is still a decent follow up which seeks to expand on the originals themes. The show is certainly far better then the “black women beats up evil kkk the show” I was expecting. The show was kinda that before going “get werid violent political fantasies are messed up and are a based more self sastifaction then actually solving problems”.
