This is the stupidest fucking show. Even outside of the identity politics shit or whatever, every plot point seems conceived to make the show make less sense.

This show has sounded comically dumb for the entire time its been on and I've been reading about it. There's no way to reasonably write in Dr Manhattan coming back, since his story had complete closure with him being done with humans and going off to make his own. It seems like you could write Rorschach or the Comedian back to life and it would be less dumb than Manhattan coming back.

At this point I'm expecting some sort of final episode twist that Lindelof probably expects everyone to praise and say that it makes everything before better. Maybe this was Dr. Manhattan trying a new generation of humans, or maybe he's doing it to show that niggers are just as bad as whites.

Of course if that does happen the show would still be shit. Every issue of the comic was art in its own right. The finale of the comic didn't make everything before into art, it already was.

Oof.

This is what the top mids of plebbit have to say about it...
I like this comment, though:

"I actually like the balanced view they take.
Yes, they demean and mock the far right ideology (The idea that it's 'hard being white in America') but also take the time to point out the danger of fascism/authoritarianism (i.e. the Cops being able to round up innocent people because of where they live/what they believe) and the nanny state (no sugar in cereal, cigarettes being illegal, no more internal combustion engines), as well as the over the top 'Trigger Warnings' on TV."

"The far right has known for at least a decade that the Squid was a literal false flag attack (which they love to claim for every attack) and rather than expose it, they've gone a rather sophisticated route keeping up the 7th Kavalry myths (the faked 'Warning' tapes, fake assassination attempt) to distract while they buld up a way to gather 'ultimate power'."

I'll see that and raise you this.

Manhattan never killed Rorshach to begin with. Manhattan, with his ability to perceive time non-linerally, realized Rorshach still had a role to play when the truth of the squid finally came to light...so he destroyed Kovacs' old body but rebirthed him as Cal, giving him a second chance to live a better life free from the strife and trauma that broke his mind the first time. Rorshach hated Manhattan at first, but eventually grew to understand why Manhattan did what he did, and eventually put his old life behind him and embraced the new opportunity.

So, as of the TV show, Rorshach's a genuinely healed and better man...but still retains his hardline sense of right and wrong, and is waiting for the right time to reveal himself to play his part tearing the entire broken system that's arisen since the squid incident down.

Except the show never really portrays any of that as a negative. The opposite in fact. How cucked do you have to be, to try to polish that turd.

Watchmen episode 8:
Show could two ways at this point one interesting one not. Considering how obsessed with Veldit Lady treui is I imagine there’s more to her plan then just saving humanity. I think looking glass is going to become Rorschach as he had a bunch of copies of the new statesmen in his house. I’m surprised we haven’t seen dan yet or his and Laurie’s pos watchmen vigilante career which has been referenced a few times. Laurie points out how aburdly cliche keenes plan is so I wonder if there’s is going to be more to it?

Lindelof already stated that Dreiberg won't be appearing in this season.

(Implying the show will have a second season, pressxtodoubt.jpeg)

Oh nononononononononono /pol/ has been btfoed yet again.

Or Jeremy is taking propaganda at face value because I swear this didn't have very high ratings?
If it has the people watching it must be mindless lemmings.

Fucking kill me, I'm done.

The graphic novel is probably my favorite piece of media ever. And I adore that thing to death.

It pains me to see them just fucking shit on it. The show doesn't live up to it, at all. Not in terms of execution, or themes.

This is just pure fucking hackery. I fucking hate it, I fucking hate that if people visit the comic book after the show they'll never really get to enjoy the ambiguous ending or appreciate how wonderfully subversive it is for the genre.

I hate that it even exists, the end of the book is meant to be ambiguous. Leave it at that. Don't try to dredge up Rorschach, the nihilistic moral absolutist whose best friend is a jew, as a white supremacist. Don't tarnish the significance of god leaving the world, because he wanted to fight racists. Way to fuck up the one bright spot in that fucking book, which is Dan and Laurie potentially having a happy ending.

Now this shit! For fucks sake it looks so fucking bad. They couldn't have put in a slight modicum more of budget to make it look at least closer to the movie.

Its all so fucking tiresome.

Is that...is that screenshot from the actual show?

I know it's a TV show so it's not going to have the same budget as a movie, but it just looks bad.

2000s HBO
The Sopranos gave us a world that was incredible close to reality and showed the viewer of how a life of crime & debauchery poisons the soul and the relationships we have with the people we love. The Wire subverted the tired Police Procedural by becoming a Shakespearean drama. Deadwood was the most brutal unflinching take of the Western Genre since Sam Peckinpah's filmography. Six Feet Under was a comedically dark show of how death shadows our lives. While not my cup of tea Sex and the City was revolutionary in how it portrayed adult relationships and broke cultural taboos.

Let's not forget the blind romantics towards hooded justice, the psychotic sadist who stopped his first crime by beating one of the criminals so badly he traumatized everyone who saw it. You can try and rewrite a lot of things, but hooded justice was always the most unhinged member of the minutemen and whiteface wouldn't have made him any less so.
